Masculine Birthday Cards - Robots

For my card making workshop in May, my creative crew and I used a robot stamp set called Bunch of Bots by the company, My Favorite Things, to make some masculine birthday cards.

This is the sample that I made, using scrap strips for the background and a scrap piece for the mat.

My crew all used different bots from each other.  They were given some scrap groupings that went together and they were able to choose which strips they wanted to use.  Some also brought their own scrap bits to work from.  We ended up with three very different and wonderful cards!

By varying the colours and the message, you can make this card work for any age of man from babies to grand-daddies!  Using the strips as a background creates a neutral design.  This style of card would work just as well with other typically male icons, like a sailing ship or other nautical imagery (anchors, compasses, etc.), a vehicle, plane, or train, a pocket watch, etc.

Just as easily, this design can be used for feminine cards too.  I really like this layout.  While it is a great way to use scraps, it only uses 5 little pieces.  I have enough scraps to make dozens of them!

Halloween Album - Ghost - Accucut Craft Challenge

The final page I have completed so far in my Halloween Mini Album is the Ghost set.  I made a fold out page and it is held shut by a tag made with the Accucut Craft Gift Tag #16.  The ghost is my own design on my BossKut Gazelle.  The ghost slips over the folds of the foldout to keep it shut.

The leaf border was made entirely from scraps and a LifeStyle Crafts tree die.  (It came with the bare tree I used on the first haunted house scrapbook page.)

The fold out is quite large - a great size for photographs!

I pulled a handful of scraps for the inside page too.  I cut the ribbon tails in them with a square punch and framed each one on a black piece of cardstock.  I used a cardstock strip to string them together and covered it with ribbon.  This border forms a pocket for the inside page.

If I ever finish this project (let's hope by Halloween!), I'll do a video to show it.  I've always wanted to do a Halloween album, but I never seemed to have the motivation to actually do it.  I do have a decent number of house pictures where we have decorated for Halloween, but only a small number of my nephews in their costumes.  (Excuses, excuses!  I know!  I will try to see this project through - really!)

Graveyard Layout - Accucut Craft Challenge

Here's the next page in the Halloween Mini Album that I have done so far.  It's a graveyard theme with tombstones I designed on my BossKut Gazelle.  They are easily reproduced, though, with a rectangle and a curved dish.

On this one, I used a magnet to hold the tombstone closed.  The backside can hold a wallet sized photo or a journalling block.  I used the Accucut Craft Fence Border Die and split it up across the tombstone.  The other side forms a corner pocket.

On the page insert made from the Theme Album Die, I stamped with white embossing powder on my tombstone border.  They form a pocket for a couple of large, plain tombstone tags that can hold 3 x 5 photos and stories.

One more page is done and one more day to enter it!

Halloween Layout - Spider - Accucut Craft Challenge

A short post today to show you the B-Side of my haunted house page (in the last post).  I wrapped some crochet string around the page and let the spider dangle free.  The spider is a die cut I designed on my BossKut Gazelle.  (I tuck his legs in the web when the dangle gets in my way!).

The inside tag made from the Accucut Craft Theme Album Die has a large photo mat.  The paper is so nice, I didn't want to cover it.  It's flocked (fuzzy) and feels pretty neat to the touch with the webs.

On this one, I used the Accucut Craft Series 1 Frame Convertibles Insert die.  All I did to make it in to more of a label shape for a journalling block is lop off the long sides.

This die is quite versatile.  I like it to mat images for my cards, as journalling blocks and now as a label!
