I figured out how to make the medium sized one with the Envelope Punch Board. But I also wanted some mini ones so I figured how to do that on the Scor Pal score board, with out the Scor Envi guide.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNE7IHOgu2H35nFJZhkHFnhQ9dOKMvvlXRzKPczrRx4tykcVewSNoO1Hu8MxOCz7_uMGotOhG8xmQgF7duXCO1I7DjT5Vz3mJBDW4Le_1mYbHdTisB5vm5YKS3zguMAIsuSJH3_H3Iz_pNEIGxmVjjELijmrX0FZrbItux_2kt3LYe7p3ceIDbWr9PRReL/s795/Bird%20Envelope.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="622" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNE7IHOgu2H35nFJZhkHFnhQ9dOKMvvlXRzKPczrRx4tykcVewSNoO1Hu8MxOCz7_uMGotOhG8xmQgF7duXCO1I7DjT5Vz3mJBDW4Le_1mYbHdTisB5vm5YKS3zguMAIsuSJH3_H3Iz_pNEIGxmVjjELijmrX0FZrbItux_2kt3LYe7p3ceIDbWr9PRReL/s320/Bird%20Envelope.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><br /><p>Tah-dah! This size of DIY envelope is a bit smaller than the currently popular Envelope of Wonder die by Spellbinders. I did make one the same size as the Envelope of Wonder, but I find it a little big. I made this as my mother-in-law's birthday card. I used a few Penny Black stamps and went for a watercolour look. I watercoloured the bird and then the flowers are a solid stamp, designed to look like you watercoloured them. The newsprint paper is among the last of the scraps I have for it. I love that paper!</p><p>I think I did okay with the watercolour. It's not my style but I've tried a few more since then. I do love that you only need 1 colour to get the variations by diluting with water. But, you don't get the same degree of control that you do with alcohol markers. It was fun to play around with something different though!</p><p>Do you like making mini-envelopes? What do you use yours for?<br /></p>Fairy Cardmaker, Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01203808294644401100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181327794077433092.post-34389176735309616782023-12-02T18:35:00.005-05:002023-12-02T18:37:07.883-05:00Scrap Paper Christmas Cards<p>If you're a paper crafter, you have scraps! I've been working away at my Christmas paper stash for a few years. I finally finished one pad off and another is about halfway there. I'm not going to buy pads again unless I love a lot of it or I'm making a mini album and I will use most of it for that singular project. I'm finally "low" on Christmas paper, but I picked up more from others who were offloading them, so it's still on the no-buy list unless I'm making an album.</p><p>So, this year, I've been saving up these scrappy card ideas and I made some Christmas and winter cards! I think they turned out great!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiblYhgap13818YEO3VWpdGKgZOEOSLEOsxy2oKoYm-QVSjzvVGF-rqjFV-jwH_VyL3MmjSNDiHbJNhkPGBR0-G8zS6x_-dr73rQiPNnOouP53SYScF6LiAmhCVV-uX39V4gSOtZyJj_noFi1rQI4c6Mu0UiEbMB3izYkX-pAqVkHhMcLbbjQUK6INsOCdJ/s795/Scrappy%20Xmas%20cards.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="795" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiblYhgap13818YEO3VWpdGKgZOEOSLEOsxy2oKoYm-QVSjzvVGF-rqjFV-jwH_VyL3MmjSNDiHbJNhkPGBR0-G8zS6x_-dr73rQiPNnOouP53SYScF6LiAmhCVV-uX39V4gSOtZyJj_noFi1rQI4c6Mu0UiEbMB3izYkX-pAqVkHhMcLbbjQUK6INsOCdJ/s320/Scrappy%20Xmas%20cards.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>I started with the envelopes. Spellbinders has an "Envelope of Wonder" die set that is popular right now. But I knew I could make mini-envelopes on my own with my score board. I also knew I had tonnes of little shapes and stamps that I could stuff the envelope with. So, this is my take on it!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgldmM6dO_YBua_lQzFz3DKK-Rz8lF6xxAmIwTHI3t0bKp-hLLu1Y8xH8n7iZI7SIKQp-AhM15pCqDQ26FXnsUHFbcvnvhQin7tQiAv-ebGQRPxu6qbtwHSTZmDC8Jq5-iWgBWxseYkwIWWza6GulGoX-Y8WqqS3PiQ8ri8eIjoQTttzJzmbYEs1y5wGTpm/s795/Mini%20Envelope%20Xmas1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="795" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgldmM6dO_YBua_lQzFz3DKK-Rz8lF6xxAmIwTHI3t0bKp-hLLu1Y8xH8n7iZI7SIKQp-AhM15pCqDQ26FXnsUHFbcvnvhQin7tQiAv-ebGQRPxu6qbtwHSTZmDC8Jq5-iWgBWxseYkwIWWza6GulGoX-Y8WqqS3PiQ8ri8eIjoQTttzJzmbYEs1y5wGTpm/s320/Mini%20Envelope%20Xmas1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>The first one is stuffed all with die cuts and a branch punch. For the second one, I cut out the snowman and ornaments from a paper pad. The trees, greenery, bird, and garlands are other die cuts I have. I used an embossing folder in the background for interest. The greeting is a hot foil stamp. I hot foiled it on the left and letterpressed it with pigment ink on the right. I don't have the matching die, so I cut it out by hand.<br /></p><p>I had so much fun making envelopes in different sizes. The one above and the tiny mini envelopes were my favourites. The larger envelope uses a 4.5 inch square and the smaller one uses a 2.5 inch square. These use a decent amount of scraps! For the mini's, I coloured up a whole stamp set with my Copic markers and stuffed them inside the envelopes.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH2hqmfZRVicjMXJ8pHb9aIzkTfuZO37LdX1ucFaVBrYwUd42Tp4qJZDPAn6D6ZmBuLCoCwI9upKpu0V15FFbNV8-o4bFnWDTnmn2KsNgzXGBybiDhKtz0NP2KP46OVXeaxX8HgxdDwBuFe7-2zUVqfv_QtWtjuLwqvlQ2BSOfBVhtRN6I4fMaRcl2v3Sb/s795/Mini%20Envelope%20Xmas2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="690" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH2hqmfZRVicjMXJ8pHb9aIzkTfuZO37LdX1ucFaVBrYwUd42Tp4qJZDPAn6D6ZmBuLCoCwI9upKpu0V15FFbNV8-o4bFnWDTnmn2KsNgzXGBybiDhKtz0NP2KP46OVXeaxX8HgxdDwBuFe7-2zUVqfv_QtWtjuLwqvlQ2BSOfBVhtRN6I4fMaRcl2v3Sb/s320/Mini%20Envelope%20Xmas2.JPG" width="278" /></a></div>The next thing I tried were strip clusters. I had some left over strips and I've seen lots of YouTube videos for making your own cluster embellishments. Clusters are not my strong suit. I lean to clean and simple. I started with just layering up the strips. I made some paper stockings and these were the left overs. When I sat down to make cards, I pulled out the layered strips (pictured on the right). Then I just tried to match them with a focal image and a sentiment.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoDmrA1Vj5g3A-Uoc4fD6pDOrQPoBb7_kB_gFwr4Tfyq2sFQmrHuArcBzWFI6tQGC8hrDGw0-WsqhcVI-IvnakUNifKIBTJkld0FAv0v77ggDIt0hiuFRv8i_M-2mRmRNRsioyn6wuu9aD84BWABRuP-e-2NcbEt-kAtFXkbl9_r0O8HiCWC_63pM03rvW/s795/Strip%20Cluster%20Xmas1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="795" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoDmrA1Vj5g3A-Uoc4fD6pDOrQPoBb7_kB_gFwr4Tfyq2sFQmrHuArcBzWFI6tQGC8hrDGw0-WsqhcVI-IvnakUNifKIBTJkld0FAv0v77ggDIt0hiuFRv8i_M-2mRmRNRsioyn6wuu9aD84BWABRuP-e-2NcbEt-kAtFXkbl9_r0O8HiCWC_63pM03rvW/s320/Strip%20Cluster%20Xmas1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Although I tried to add some interest with the softly ink blended circle frame, this card still felt a bit too plain for me. It's fine for a masculine card, but it needed something more. So, for the next one, I embossed the background again and it made a big difference!<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXLk51LfgUqL-ohRkouuBExIEYblj1x_6XbW2lW9VxRFFweR2sN2-wdM-E-29tUT6pBwbLEfPlCbX_rhmB8wypHFlLOVHccBmBnnhAZlQ04LE5R1CROzRIZFLTZPibiVSYLC2htenInQ65NXCq6-7s3ntsfboJTa0-dc8A55dEFtLQLCHIjxN5sUXU4N2X/s790/Strip%20Cluster%20Xmas2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="790" data-original-width="624" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXLk51LfgUqL-ohRkouuBExIEYblj1x_6XbW2lW9VxRFFweR2sN2-wdM-E-29tUT6pBwbLEfPlCbX_rhmB8wypHFlLOVHccBmBnnhAZlQ04LE5R1CROzRIZFLTZPibiVSYLC2htenInQ65NXCq6-7s3ntsfboJTa0-dc8A55dEFtLQLCHIjxN5sUXU4N2X/s320/Strip%20Cluster%20Xmas2.JPG" width="253" /></a></div><p>Then I did one more step with the embossing folders and used white pigment ink on top.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6Nt3jxo_IO3XMHpBWSk3hyxhowPTAAwR_7NcJ-ZFK2Q6wyp0dutY9x-gTQ5o_tbQWKh_tG0rp5VX-jclC_0RNRb14Jh1shEf5PeDbwdtzJOn41UyMCJu3iE6RcB11MMyxGf0M4KQ8HvtpqGe99zR4bGftZFkVjZpvj3ODjXkBxCb_df63y51IC5oyHWm1/s795/Strip%20Cluster%20Xmas3.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="572" data-original-width="795" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6Nt3jxo_IO3XMHpBWSk3hyxhowPTAAwR_7NcJ-ZFK2Q6wyp0dutY9x-gTQ5o_tbQWKh_tG0rp5VX-jclC_0RNRb14Jh1shEf5PeDbwdtzJOn41UyMCJu3iE6RcB11MMyxGf0M4KQ8HvtpqGe99zR4bGftZFkVjZpvj3ODjXkBxCb_df63y51IC5oyHWm1/s320/Strip%20Cluster%20Xmas3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>The last of the scrappy Christmas cards I made use the tried and true scrap strip background technique. You just keep layering strips next to each other to cover some amount of the background. Then I used an idea from Jill Foster (from the Penny Black YouTube channel). Penny Black has some sentiment dies that cut out only the top part of the word. So, I did some partial die cutting to mimic the effect. Their dies do a swooshy line. I could only achieve a straight line but I think it looks fine.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTZTLzWwl2wdsQSalWHn51HX2lXIt1DC8dmkGs95ELaVK7ZgKyxaQC57r__M4vrrR8q1wSTSb4b0ePTrkx5DO9EbSnm9QUrsZcrtD9vCt-LEF7ESyzMCzsb7nIWFf6v_On0uKrGmuqIBEAgCi78h2ft51LxYZAlPgAGV3t4UOyXrEQ3lqcj8fQ0LbgleKQ/s795/Strip%20Scraps%20Xmas1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="795" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTZTLzWwl2wdsQSalWHn51HX2lXIt1DC8dmkGs95ELaVK7ZgKyxaQC57r__M4vrrR8q1wSTSb4b0ePTrkx5DO9EbSnm9QUrsZcrtD9vCt-LEF7ESyzMCzsb7nIWFf6v_On0uKrGmuqIBEAgCi78h2ft51LxYZAlPgAGV3t4UOyXrEQ3lqcj8fQ0LbgleKQ/s320/Strip%20Scraps%20Xmas1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>The "joyful" die by Hero Arts has a shadow. The shadow is what I partially die cut and then I cut the word from red foil cardstock. For the next batch, I don't have a shadow die. So, I just manually cut around the words. It's easier with words like these (from C.C. Rubber Stamps) that are not too frilly.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO7uSNEwzFBH_zAY2K_gpKkQYdQo2AHzvI7DF5H6KgbTnH236uxQnBdp2JRhGHer6qR25JC71avaDRpuWUhs_fJ-crXskDD8GRkPfPnp2lpuVeEVIMzDWPEByKd7Y19TCP4f_KTMKSD49myfT_BYIs23zn6cm8iVwD6QiU-_GnqGvwS9I5HATb2gOy54uD/s795/Strip%20Scraps%20Xmas2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="795" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO7uSNEwzFBH_zAY2K_gpKkQYdQo2AHzvI7DF5H6KgbTnH236uxQnBdp2JRhGHer6qR25JC71avaDRpuWUhs_fJ-crXskDD8GRkPfPnp2lpuVeEVIMzDWPEByKd7Y19TCP4f_KTMKSD49myfT_BYIs23zn6cm8iVwD6QiU-_GnqGvwS9I5HATb2gOy54uD/s320/Strip%20Scraps%20Xmas2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>I finished all the cards off with some enamel dots - except the deer. It has flat stickers (I think they are vinyl). The "candy" style dots are from Queen and Co. and were actually marketed as beach balls. But I think they look like candies. The glitter dots are from my Your Next Stamp stash. (Your Next Stamp is closed now, sadly.)</p><p>I hope these scrap paper Christmas cards inspire you to work your stash this holiday season! I really like the bear on the strip cluster and the partial cut words on the strip backgrounds. It's been a while since I posted any creations. Rest assured, I have been crafting but at a much reduced level for the last while. I have been experimenting with some new tools and techniques of late though, so I wanted to share some of that.</p><p>Today, I'm sharing some ink blending. The first up is a no-risk ink blended panel. There's no risk to this one because the panel is a separate piece. If it doesn't turn out the way you want it to, then you simply start over - no card ruined!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPdYPuq4DSstjHozUnJaCgeSTF7Axq0VWYwjUiHkq8lsu7A2TGaU3yVNZfHauLfYjNMVhi8DdrlxhwivcnNYfD1DMJMbgO7fkz0yR_8-BsgysR0XWF__r0EzJzZMy7jqINXJvNHRv7ADJq8q9wXKAQZu47cvwYHp2ptTVFIqPHNlLR2CnmBkLhzv0i5w/s800/Blended%20Panel%20Xmas%20Card1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="696" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPdYPuq4DSstjHozUnJaCgeSTF7Axq0VWYwjUiHkq8lsu7A2TGaU3yVNZfHauLfYjNMVhi8DdrlxhwivcnNYfD1DMJMbgO7fkz0yR_8-BsgysR0XWF__r0EzJzZMy7jqINXJvNHRv7ADJq8q9wXKAQZu47cvwYHp2ptTVFIqPHNlLR2CnmBkLhzv0i5w/s320/Blended%20Panel%20Xmas%20Card1.JPG" width="278" /></a></div><br /><p>I used a purple and a pink about half'n'half. Then I used a blue at the top to blend over the lighter pink to create a bit of a purple hue to the blue. I used dye-based inks for this one. For this panel, I blended on Copic Xpress It paper because it's the smoothest card I have. The card background is embossed with a chevron patterned embossing folder. Since that adds texture, I thought simple, plain, smooth white cardstock die cuts would be just fine. <br /></p><p>Don't have die cuts? No problem. On this version, I literally scribbled a tree line and some trees. Absolutely no skill required!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr4uiyw-Zx835-MeBIh7f2Skzb-UBuApXkXMkAE7JLv8Vi5VVEqvULlmv8OHLS4alSUiVf7uIfFttBxzbRgvsku_zKEWBf6mrIbpRaK9ROVTuXSqF66DwwlamipAH7xX6PbceXdy3pHcHrys0aWVjXWa4kWb68MMOBn_1XEsIC4T88L4oGfTlRtx9P9w/s800/Blended%20Panel%20Xmas%20Card2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="673" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr4uiyw-Zx835-MeBIh7f2Skzb-UBuApXkXMkAE7JLv8Vi5VVEqvULlmv8OHLS4alSUiVf7uIfFttBxzbRgvsku_zKEWBf6mrIbpRaK9ROVTuXSqF66DwwlamipAH7xX6PbceXdy3pHcHrys0aWVjXWa4kWb68MMOBn_1XEsIC4T88L4oGfTlRtx9P9w/s320/Blended%20Panel%20Xmas%20Card2.JPG" width="269" /></a></div><br /><p>It's simple but effective, if you ask me!</p><p>On the next card, I did a traditionally blue sky. It was inspired by Michelle Short of the Card Grotto. See her card here: <a href="https://www.cardgrotto.com/2023/02/video-mft-stenciled-sky.html">MFT Stenciling</a>. Her cards are always a clean and sharp design that I really like.<br /></p><p>This one was done with Distress Oxide inks directly onto the card front. I masked off the edges and used my homemade cloud stencil for the bottom edge.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibYBUQrzKirsHENdeGl9lEmfTD2x1-CdamYhUULN8zpVcNSENeVXNi36WpxNRVM0OfO6o3VtIuQ8xDLles40e0jDPpHX1RRGXYpY76XLD2OtekITlAN1yRfmx3k-2nxtb6_c9dX7VWT-gulI78VQcyUGqEnY3BreAOTFrVvKhfXrQbh-RrRvpt32SLng/s800/Blended%20Sky%20Balloon%20Card1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="711" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibYBUQrzKirsHENdeGl9lEmfTD2x1-CdamYhUULN8zpVcNSENeVXNi36WpxNRVM0OfO6o3VtIuQ8xDLles40e0jDPpHX1RRGXYpY76XLD2OtekITlAN1yRfmx3k-2nxtb6_c9dX7VWT-gulI78VQcyUGqEnY3BreAOTFrVvKhfXrQbh-RrRvpt32SLng/s320/Blended%20Sky%20Balloon%20Card1.JPG" width="284" /></a></div><br /><p>I tried to make it cheerful and masculine but rainbow is just not my style. Still turned out cute though! How could it not with the ever super cute stamp set from Lawn Fawn? (<a href="https://www.lawnfawn.com/products/really-high-five">Really High Five </a>stamp set.)</p><p>Lastly, I tried spotlight ink blending. I used the same stamp for the first attempt:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-48oFozI3W23FvfT_0nvTR7dxwdSr1D2O1xr2TTX8sMidrgW-z14Be7Z3TBwqjtHe7sNyNsX6jepXLCxykwYAy_5iEl5hp8VjbkxGrCLNboKfwJu09U5TYr7TboORuBCnOLwI4Qt7VuNrC_thyskbukUpOhYTtSD01m2yZAmCngHN2OAjllHpb9brAg/s800/Spotlight%20Blend%20Birthday%20Card1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="657" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-48oFozI3W23FvfT_0nvTR7dxwdSr1D2O1xr2TTX8sMidrgW-z14Be7Z3TBwqjtHe7sNyNsX6jepXLCxykwYAy_5iEl5hp8VjbkxGrCLNboKfwJu09U5TYr7TboORuBCnOLwI4Qt7VuNrC_thyskbukUpOhYTtSD01m2yZAmCngHN2OAjllHpb9brAg/s320/Spotlight%20Blend%20Birthday%20Card1.JPG" width="263" /></a></div><p> This was also with Distress Oxide ink and a blending sponge. You can see marks - it's not that smooth. So, I tried again with a dye in and a blending brush instead and I like this result MUCH better. It's directly inspired by a card made by Gina K. After playing around with it making a couple of prototypes, I made this disc bound notebook for a friend. I had seen others make DIY planners using Dollar Tree gift bags as covers, so I tried the same thing.</p><p>This is a gift set of goodies including the notebook, a bridge card, and a matchbook notepad. I also made tab dividers for the notebook with my WRMK envelope punch board and some coffee cup shaped paper clips.<br /></p><p>You can watch my video walkthrough of this project and some thoughts on the Disc Cinch on my YouTube channel. Just click the picture!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://youtu.be/fXZiZUEwoxI" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="419" data-original-width="795" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmYWje5DkX46yt-kqVY04k5uIDeITkuOsOFNpCPDbLYOO_YPaVf7xvVH4zRhiEqMHtOkUUUETVzF39oMFGvhBGG2xApkic1fmnEWSy27X4Go-7LfM5Z3u-Tdgok_Ru7C5IfNI1PzSrseaLot0kgCavHhk_ydRl0D8QexC8fdH-x-Erx6p3207-3HVVIQ/w400-h211/Discbound%20Notebook%20Thumnail_small.png" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Fairy Cardmaker, Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01203808294644401100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181327794077433092.post-69904946843252094502022-03-27T23:24:00.003-04:002022-03-27T23:24:34.686-04:00Shadowbox 50th Birthday Card<p>One of our friends turned 50 this month, so I wanted to make him a special card. This is a true milestone for him and needed to be celebrated! I used the same template I made for my mother-in-law's birthday card (here: <a href="http://www.fairycardmaker.com/2021/12/shadow-box-birthday-card-alcohol-inked.html" target="_blank">alcohol inked shadowbox birthday card</a>). For that card, I inked up the whole sky with an alcohol ink technique. <br /></p><p>For this one, I did regular ink blending with blending brushes.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjge2fzD_wAn6Qc1O2Ww5EbwKpY5jHbXBw_yD0Tz3djrwVXconiQFREyyiddTrqkR1f5Z9M9WW-WShqXS3WdDkskRl3gQW-LyEPoJ54jPw3E_CtF1g98hD1LFPUvDUOmsa02xXz4Vvy3j5CHl8ksqFVRk5T9ipPBpRmlWav3UOEeWtbR1BaHJ9FaId49g/s748/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="748" data-original-width="597" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjge2fzD_wAn6Qc1O2Ww5EbwKpY5jHbXBw_yD0Tz3djrwVXconiQFREyyiddTrqkR1f5Z9M9WW-WShqXS3WdDkskRl3gQW-LyEPoJ54jPw3E_CtF1g98hD1LFPUvDUOmsa02xXz4Vvy3j5CHl8ksqFVRk5T9ipPBpRmlWav3UOEeWtbR1BaHJ9FaId49g/s320/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card1.jpg" width="255" /></a></div> <p></p><p>Everything on this card started out as white cardstock. I used a grass mask by Lawn Fawn to make the grass line in the back. I used my homemade cloud stencil for the sky. The grass in the middle layer is a long grass die cut that I ink blended and the front layer is a short grass die cut that I also ink blended. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXAxB0JTZnS8bP49bgBQrEYHrSzeo1XGk4D50R4iQA2CCAkQZTOcYp82COCqQrnLlJbCdkic-5L8NPyOjexKIa1IteMfPrk1QZd9ezigV9lkPFw842PeZcZlx0JSz19kbsWEJbncSWo3p6T9Y31GuDGSIayqs1FQHuJ1UCF8cgnNKubozMkZ_P-CSRvg/s748/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="748" data-original-width="748" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXAxB0JTZnS8bP49bgBQrEYHrSzeo1XGk4D50R4iQA2CCAkQZTOcYp82COCqQrnLlJbCdkic-5L8NPyOjexKIa1IteMfPrk1QZd9ezigV9lkPFw842PeZcZlx0JSz19kbsWEJbncSWo3p6T9Y31GuDGSIayqs1FQHuJ1UCF8cgnNKubozMkZ_P-CSRvg/s320/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <p></p><p>Then I stamped the critters and coloured them with my alcohol ink markers and cut them out by hand. I dug into my stash to make this card! There's a whole medley of stamp sets! (It actually took quite a long time to make this card.) All the critters are from a Hello Bluebird stamp set. I found two gift stamps: a solid one and one I had to colour in. I used a Your Next Stamp balloon cluster image and I found a single balloon in another stamp set. I forget what stamp set the party hats are from, but boy they were REALLY TINY to colour in!<br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKO0Z9q8Z7YgGAQ-Y29_yfb9TTODB9cYnnn9M6yT4sJgt3nPVgKWAJ2YEnlMq7QNm-Yy5JnUuSSveyo-CzJY9nK-w3vnAac92jWVVv8jvA3iughydaBbmFQRw8KqRWnxW0WYYAZ02-Qa1PEne9XTMhjrF1EI0o4AEEKYYaJAmlhSAk6LBujf7PWNJXCQ/s748/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="748" data-original-width="548" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKO0Z9q8Z7YgGAQ-Y29_yfb9TTODB9cYnnn9M6yT4sJgt3nPVgKWAJ2YEnlMq7QNm-Yy5JnUuSSveyo-CzJY9nK-w3vnAac92jWVVv8jvA3iughydaBbmFQRw8KqRWnxW0WYYAZ02-Qa1PEne9XTMhjrF1EI0o4AEEKYYaJAmlhSAk6LBujf7PWNJXCQ/s320/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card2.jpg" width="234" /></a></div> <p></p><p>I knew I wanted a large 50 to be floating in the middle. I used acetate for that. Since cleaning my craft room, I put all my "leftover" bits (e.g. die cut but not used, stamped but not used, etc.) in what I'm calling my "bits box". So I dug in there and found the cupcake. I coloured that up and put it in!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjkSe1gm6hz_O8B4l4-XRpJooLjQQaYQqc1BEeA68t72XR8Hy9LTrKqMCMUVtbV9stfJXLyI9wmEjhIX6JkL0VW_bbu4S3D068zzoc199wywpmkpkHYyhs86gugH8bAAyBCmPEskPBnpRds6JP3gvxzFR6mNc0jGCVNyGw8qiti3J2Labk1KxGuJxXoA/s748/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="748" data-original-width="542" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjkSe1gm6hz_O8B4l4-XRpJooLjQQaYQqc1BEeA68t72XR8Hy9LTrKqMCMUVtbV9stfJXLyI9wmEjhIX6JkL0VW_bbu4S3D068zzoc199wywpmkpkHYyhs86gugH8bAAyBCmPEskPBnpRds6JP3gvxzFR6mNc0jGCVNyGw8qiti3J2Labk1KxGuJxXoA/s320/50th%20Birthday%20Arched%20Box%20Card3.jpg" width="232" /></a></div><p>I put a pocket on the back and wrote out a little poem for a sentiment on a separate sheet that I slipped into the pocket. I love getting cards from my Creative Crew. I get to see their learning in action!</p><p>The first to arrive was Debbie's card. It's super glittery with a patterned glitter paper as the background. I cut tiny cardinals for Debbie. She just loves them. So, she made me a cardinal card!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiSUBUxcKxF-LXfLmDjzODvGm2YqohsSZd4I-sxdbLt1-Go5so99hs6YFWnsGi_jW8ttGJGQppuZJcaknaIGanGMARhuBOALJ_7_ajYFO3TZfLQ0zmOJM25iC8_haVvUqE7bKJjE892NigHu61s6NScg_trQqaP5xx0gZSY9NP-ZfsGL40lDKv7rCcIkw=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="641" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiSUBUxcKxF-LXfLmDjzODvGm2YqohsSZd4I-sxdbLt1-Go5so99hs6YFWnsGi_jW8ttGJGQppuZJcaknaIGanGMARhuBOALJ_7_ajYFO3TZfLQ0zmOJM25iC8_haVvUqE7bKJjE892NigHu61s6NScg_trQqaP5xx0gZSY9NP-ZfsGL40lDKv7rCcIkw=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>The sentiment was left from the last card class we had together. The cardinal has glitter accents and the poinsettia is made from foiled paper. On the inside, she stamped an evergreen, put a golden start sequin at the top and put one of the tiny die cut cardinals inside.</p><p>The next card was from Norma. I seem to have a weakness for snowflakes so she made me a card full of them! Plus they have glitter accented ones in the paper too. Teal (leaning to blue) is my favourite colour, so this card speaks to me (and has only nice things to say)!<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEggEfIWHJ6PZLkfYszVxXCg-03atFyYrgYjhna0IQtzACPWlakXtswgtVMR7uvFk92wOpSjt9kabD2iDp1b0KTZJrsqjOhadWmyXfyR0wOUBbVDPBn8vDcqiiMc_JhR16BWtHzj9kI77u7ZLp3IoxLIgyeui91PsAkn6Ljwnwm6NEJ2MOaxq2LsXz2ncg=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="631" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEggEfIWHJ6PZLkfYszVxXCg-03atFyYrgYjhna0IQtzACPWlakXtswgtVMR7uvFk92wOpSjt9kabD2iDp1b0KTZJrsqjOhadWmyXfyR0wOUBbVDPBn8vDcqiiMc_JhR16BWtHzj9kI77u7ZLp3IoxLIgyeui91PsAkn6Ljwnwm6NEJ2MOaxq2LsXz2ncg=s320" width="254" /></a></div><br /><p>I got a lovely snowman card from Claire. Our last card class was an easel card class. So, she made a easel card to showcase what she learned! She stamped a happy snow-family and coloured it with alcohol markers.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQqZ0jOetf8-ogGyw_qj_agbRImkCsFm5SHIiQCFiaPpnpeYbGWCcw1d9VMJGBJ2O1o9p-_Az8nxx4utajajgHtbSIZYtcHWV3eFN7fUAFWvJGhol-nfDdIEqXiEGv3Q-mLFTJQ-Zk3uC2LPbkCEkaBUH33xS_coYeBpigCC-O2nCme11oLeMi_DQyQA=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="647" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQqZ0jOetf8-ogGyw_qj_agbRImkCsFm5SHIiQCFiaPpnpeYbGWCcw1d9VMJGBJ2O1o9p-_Az8nxx4utajajgHtbSIZYtcHWV3eFN7fUAFWvJGhol-nfDdIEqXiEGv3Q-mLFTJQ-Zk3uC2LPbkCEkaBUH33xS_coYeBpigCC-O2nCme11oLeMi_DQyQA=s320" width="260" /></a></div><br /><p>You can see how the easel card stands in this image:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjvvqB90J_KIG40gSV_43W4Y5pST0vOZ35th9rNIb-VgbR8D2v-BidsD08_ukQSGWofNMGKClxvFZ6Cg3kyfTaRB8WDIbA1GQaCA-6ci-3U8CJbkce5A8Ty2UKXErm13CqUiNlJ0ibbuvu-KjOl_60YKHRHCmqJxflIQNeS-tt6zo1d61WUdUEIry4OZQ=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="774" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjvvqB90J_KIG40gSV_43W4Y5pST0vOZ35th9rNIb-VgbR8D2v-BidsD08_ukQSGWofNMGKClxvFZ6Cg3kyfTaRB8WDIbA1GQaCA-6ci-3U8CJbkce5A8Ty2UKXErm13CqUiNlJ0ibbuvu-KjOl_60YKHRHCmqJxflIQNeS-tt6zo1d61WUdUEIry4OZQ=s320" width="312" /></a></div>She put a die-cut greeting on the inside and her heartfelt message on the back of the card. I have the same die-cut greeting. I just love die-cut greetings. I think they stand out so well. You can also see in the second image how Claire added just a touch of sparkle to the snow with a glitter pen. All the falling snow is coloured in and there's some on the ground too.<p>The last handmade card I got was from Maria. Maria lives farther away so she doesn't get to come to the crafty classes, but she attends some near her with a local Stampin' Up! demonstrator. The colours are just gorgeous. It looks like she die cut some evergreens from some ink-smooshed papers. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiDN0_75iFg7zngKbPIdK9UzOEVfWE6m_Ey4EFDgv8WMDMhPEty6Z1ZTsCuVwT0authIhoWXDirQ-IgNmSHWo4Qv2WSQjdnuILaMQN1t2Q0CC__2mIq9TcDJE6QyIYxl0RS7SCQl4M5eFGlXfEA1ScY_-muHZPOrDm2QFwn0PJGwotCCE8jpPxXAbFfKw=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="636" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiDN0_75iFg7zngKbPIdK9UzOEVfWE6m_Ey4EFDgv8WMDMhPEty6Z1ZTsCuVwT0authIhoWXDirQ-IgNmSHWo4Qv2WSQjdnuILaMQN1t2Q0CC__2mIq9TcDJE6QyIYxl0RS7SCQl4M5eFGlXfEA1ScY_-muHZPOrDm2QFwn0PJGwotCCE8jpPxXAbFfKw=s320" width="256" /></a></div>She arranged them on an embossed panel of trees. You can see the embossing better in the second photo. Her sentiment has been placed behind some vellum for a soft look and popped up on foam tape for dimension.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiNW7ASwvYpPgbPI4fP1THsNTsLsBIm4kc8tgIIt9x5vkAxyTfLGI0Cnb_uDjUccm8Atoh6DVS5fzQ4LNOdqcYorz9N8v3M0xxV4Jxcgba0G2DX10dLNoyS6HQsucUapLFLXCwV9pw8QisUryF3nWjnPMoU3zsc7tx24w1YdV4TZFyYOpg9UCV-RAGw8A=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="795" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiNW7ASwvYpPgbPI4fP1THsNTsLsBIm4kc8tgIIt9x5vkAxyTfLGI0Cnb_uDjUccm8Atoh6DVS5fzQ4LNOdqcYorz9N8v3M0xxV4Jxcgba0G2DX10dLNoyS6HQsucUapLFLXCwV9pw8QisUryF3nWjnPMoU3zsc7tx24w1YdV4TZFyYOpg9UCV-RAGw8A=s320" width="320" /></a></div>It's a very soft and serene card - also clean and simple looking, which is totally up my alley!<p>I am happy to have so many creative people around me. I made a card for my husband to go with the gift our doggy bought him. The gift had to do with walking together in the winter, so I made a nice little winter scene.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjLmXzu6_Hevq2mfTKtyARDBGBp9R7EdFiByvADRn-xnS3KAd8O63a3PKJsgh8pWxnv2iwlWRx09ceL3A1Kue5hX3U3KTu_-IxT7o7zZNAFjQb2PUCVxyTOYAozPV_rdPEW3K44a6erAQO_VtRU_MzLwfsuVBmAkgqZSve4px_rV51uvGBrhGJgf3bbPg=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="641" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjLmXzu6_Hevq2mfTKtyARDBGBp9R7EdFiByvADRn-xnS3KAd8O63a3PKJsgh8pWxnv2iwlWRx09ceL3A1Kue5hX3U3KTu_-IxT7o7zZNAFjQb2PUCVxyTOYAozPV_rdPEW3K44a6erAQO_VtRU_MzLwfsuVBmAkgqZSve4px_rV51uvGBrhGJgf3bbPg=s320" width="258" /></a></div><br /><p>Now, I don't ink blend often, but I do admire it! So, I decided to try it out. I bought this Clearly Besotted <a href="https://www.clearlybesottedstamps.com/products/holiday-huskies" target="_blank">Holiday Huskies stamp set</a> last year but didn't end up using it. I based my card off of a sample in another Clearly Besotted stamp set called <a href="https://www.clearlybesottedstamps.com/products/prancing-plushies" target="_blank">Prancing Plushies</a>. (Click the link to see their samples. Their plushie sets are adorable!)</p><p>I started out by cutting my tree masks. I used Avery Repositionable Labels from Staples (Business Depot). I bought a pack of it as 8.5 x 11 full sheets. This stuff is great! I used birch tree dies from Joy Crafts and a stitched hill from Creative Expressions.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhA4JylvWrWhx7O1rfoMb2VMb2ALJTx_-3ZErjXjosCGqYs8FuOgVo_iefl48eTlTYFYY9M_3FudyUiBfLa8BfHMn88NI6HC0I1YIB0WCU1cP-ajdheOO0DZw8OeCELKMhzjT6Q_nqL_nw2iIB_vAkLJi8sc9IBnelhEZISofCjDbBLEsWq2wsskOnMtA=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="596" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhA4JylvWrWhx7O1rfoMb2VMb2ALJTx_-3ZErjXjosCGqYs8FuOgVo_iefl48eTlTYFYY9M_3FudyUiBfLa8BfHMn88NI6HC0I1YIB0WCU1cP-ajdheOO0DZw8OeCELKMhzjT6Q_nqL_nw2iIB_vAkLJi8sc9IBnelhEZISofCjDbBLEsWq2wsskOnMtA=s320" width="240" /></a></div><p>Then I used mint tape from Scrapbook.com to mask a half-inch border on my card front. (Mint tape is like Post-It tape.) I used my glass mat grid lines and a ruler to help me get it straight. When the masking was done, it looked like this:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhG3XubYdnEZ0O9UUc80tCP5c_vrDG_2tnghmnyeU53cXN9qno2fb_rxS6p9kg44B5LpmgcurKGMDRYvfftd4sPWnU3P2IbTN7aemDkDXz-0rDslcxa0vCA82OACPGfn9bptDs3gTWJZdm_vriz61YoH47pkROBBmWWIjcEKyXcYP3oJ3TYk_tbdPgxpA=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="596" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhG3XubYdnEZ0O9UUc80tCP5c_vrDG_2tnghmnyeU53cXN9qno2fb_rxS6p9kg44B5LpmgcurKGMDRYvfftd4sPWnU3P2IbTN7aemDkDXz-0rDslcxa0vCA82OACPGfn9bptDs3gTWJZdm_vriz61YoH47pkROBBmWWIjcEKyXcYP3oJ3TYk_tbdPgxpA=s320" width="240" /></a></div><p>I used 3 colours of Distress Oxides to blend the sky (Salty Ocean, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire). I bought these three colours years ago specifically for sky blending. This might be the 3rd time I've used them. (As I said, I'm not big on blending!) I used my make-up brush tool to blend. It look a long time to get a solid blend. In retrospect, I wish I had tried a foam dauber. It would put down ink faster, I think.</p><p>Here's what it looked like when the blending was done:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjOrgRx2LYwULDbOk5qQP6-JNt6b6Ouwr721abQUYLg6eJLtDOfYZ1z0I0RrtP4vd0E6-9_7BSAni91fgLJzyhoiXkC-e66XsHhh44dt9CrsIG2190Wb5cwyRZpQtFMNEOrPJ8XIP3WyGnBonDj75cYEtO7yQ9cTKUXz2pvbTA7-tCwk8UI5bys6s2TvQ=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="596" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjOrgRx2LYwULDbOk5qQP6-JNt6b6Ouwr721abQUYLg6eJLtDOfYZ1z0I0RrtP4vd0E6-9_7BSAni91fgLJzyhoiXkC-e66XsHhh44dt9CrsIG2190Wb5cwyRZpQtFMNEOrPJ8XIP3WyGnBonDj75cYEtO7yQ9cTKUXz2pvbTA7-tCwk8UI5bys6s2TvQ=s320" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p>And then.... the big reveal!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjVh90T31OnPsqILUxCf3a-ozqyiFoAGyPgxHW98oeBB5kh5sNC8WEJdkHiy_gVDBsOxOIU43BUte_n0G1X1rrr_hhpM-wESJyVCQbOlTlfS1kU6NWbNhAWMFDzmA1x-_0QuBG2GxqohXWOe6L66MewPLAeoPWnYq5kJUkHOUqLxXJfQfbl9fDfFPVchQ=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="596" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjVh90T31OnPsqILUxCf3a-ozqyiFoAGyPgxHW98oeBB5kh5sNC8WEJdkHiy_gVDBsOxOIU43BUte_n0G1X1rrr_hhpM-wESJyVCQbOlTlfS1kU6NWbNhAWMFDzmA1x-_0QuBG2GxqohXWOe6L66MewPLAeoPWnYq5kJUkHOUqLxXJfQfbl9fDfFPVchQ=s320" width="240" /></a></div><p>From the Holiday Huskies stamp set, I chose two images and coloured them with my Copic Markers.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjEnZ-P-9DDOIEjSFiE5vriq0WECORdkgouJZvam4MPukWc8f_TWZtErKcazxxoSLGWSZxxeL183oPOXxVnsZqMKWW01sG37I5KQYFXRACinNxB-oNxynf6W2417hKmx09FU0U-J35tCMtMcRSWH4BOIvDYVvfVJnWBpqOukZiJjoj6eJtB375OIFzKeQ=s795" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="576" data-original-width="795" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjEnZ-P-9DDOIEjSFiE5vriq0WECORdkgouJZvam4MPukWc8f_TWZtErKcazxxoSLGWSZxxeL183oPOXxVnsZqMKWW01sG37I5KQYFXRACinNxB-oNxynf6W2417hKmx09FU0U-J35tCMtMcRSWH4BOIvDYVvfVJnWBpqOukZiJjoj6eJtB375OIFzKeQ=s320" width="320" /></a></div><p>I had to colour the husky to look like our dog, Shadow! I love their storybook line art. I don't normally go for the dies, but I did for this one because the hot air balloon does cut out inside the strings. I have been looking for a good hot air balloon die forever! I think a hot air balloon is perfect for both feminine and masculine cards.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEho_HU3w8d6XvZCEPvpezD3gCD9-Md8NnG40tdHKzO2DXucM6zwIjxuHvcmTUH5avzS1hj-0RlEl2Dbm60wLRbvDHPg8I_qHpVKNv0PzSHY-289HPqdWWPjNWjpythd1UkTNEOlHVZp8v78qDa32em4IR48pEEhZQdZXQVpCKNm_n-3Yiv_zNxyh2cJ5A=s1832" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1832" data-original-width="1808" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEho_HU3w8d6XvZCEPvpezD3gCD9-Md8NnG40tdHKzO2DXucM6zwIjxuHvcmTUH5avzS1hj-0RlEl2Dbm60wLRbvDHPg8I_qHpVKNv0PzSHY-289HPqdWWPjNWjpythd1UkTNEOlHVZp8v78qDa32em4IR48pEEhZQdZXQVpCKNm_n-3Yiv_zNxyh2cJ5A=s320" width="316" /></a></div><p>I modeled the shape of this card from a video by Jennifer McGuire (here: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhYIyFmyNyo&t=835s" target="_blank">3D Display Cards - Many Sizes!</a>). I made some templates for different sizes of these arch-topped shadowbox cards using a few of my arched Accucut Craft dies. I show the die used for this one in my video (linked below). However, you could use a plate to round the top of your shadowbox.<br /></p><p>I coloured my images with Copic markers. Not thrilled with how the balloon turned out. I need to look up how to colour that rounded shape. Not only is the whole balloon rounded but also each of the panels has a curve.<br /></p><p>Besides the stamp set, the main feature on this card is the background sky. I made it myself with my alcohol inks. I recorded the process in a video posted here:</p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/AYJD_wv5jug" target="_blank">Alcohol Ink Background Sky</a></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi8l7uTO8Tf2NG4IxJxL-rEk7Wk3oAFmagGwR-l38zOjWOeGK8EA656i_-e4ReZQK8VAiRb8yvVLB4LsrzRYbsp-Yqbw96ceJCPDKhsrCQxziqqElQT-YsK4UgA7CI0tycB4MmlK-On6-HNqukcn56f2Td0RCMaC1lIz4VpI4DP-2CC7mds6mFPYnbQ7Q=s3356" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3356" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi8l7uTO8Tf2NG4IxJxL-rEk7Wk3oAFmagGwR-l38zOjWOeGK8EA656i_-e4ReZQK8VAiRb8yvVLB4LsrzRYbsp-Yqbw96ceJCPDKhsrCQxziqqElQT-YsK4UgA7CI0tycB4MmlK-On6-HNqukcn56f2Td0RCMaC1lIz4VpI4DP-2CC7mds6mFPYnbQ7Q=s320" width="320" /></a></div> <p></p><p>I share a tip on how I get the look of alcohol pearl inks without having any pearl inks! I had seen this idea to make "shaker pockets" a long time ago, but it fell from my mind. Lately, however, Amy R., from <a href="https://prairiepaperandink.typepad.com/amyr/" target="_blank">Prairie Paper & Ink</a>, has been making these borderless shaker cards and finally inspired me to try one.</p><p>So, I made a retirement card with it. I used one of my newest stamps from <a href="https://www.lawnfawn.com/" target="_blank">Lawn Fawn</a> called <a href="https://www.lawnfawn.com/products/really-high-five?_pos=1&_sid=3dc77d2e5&_ss=r" target="_blank">Really High Five</a>. I coloured it with my Copic markers. The bear shape reminds of me of gummy bears, so I made him a fun, non-traditional colour! Behind the die cut (which is by Creative Expression), I used my homemade cloud stencil for a colourful, puffy sky.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZXSerBB3RI5z3A-9tBSzoKzpN4xlDvI__M9ZMOuv9gkypd65S2CKQgGb4zTThhuUSNtUnRnwf9S6NzHCoJtSt8xR5sXMyOaDd_-TcZRA8jnWWDeZWH4Usko6IQKpzDuwLu0sYj2htAGG_/s795/image0.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="648" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZXSerBB3RI5z3A-9tBSzoKzpN4xlDvI__M9ZMOuv9gkypd65S2CKQgGb4zTThhuUSNtUnRnwf9S6NzHCoJtSt8xR5sXMyOaDd_-TcZRA8jnWWDeZWH4Usko6IQKpzDuwLu0sYj2htAGG_/s320/image0.jpeg" width="261" /></a></div><p>I wrote a poem for the inside. My friend loved it! She wants to learn how to make the frameless shaker card! (So, I sent her a video by Amy R.)</p><p>It's faster than traditional shaker cards that use a foam backing but, sometimes, that dimension is nice. I do have a few shaker die sets from Queen & Co. now that I need to try out. Their foam is SUPER thick, so I may cut my own foam. We'll see!</p><p>Do you like shaker cards? Have you tried the frameless kind?<br /></p>Fairy Cardmaker, Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01203808294644401100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181327794077433092.post-16861037283615204932021-03-08T14:31:00.000-05:002021-03-08T14:31:28.846-05:00Reusable Handmade Greeting Cards<p> In today's economic climate, we need to make every penny count. This is the time we want to reach out to others more than ever, since we cannot always be face-to-face. Sending a handmade card is a great way to make someone feel unique and special. But, sometimes, the best cards are a bit costly.</p><p>Enter, the reusable handmade greeting card. This trend is catching on. Stamp companies even make stamps that indicate to the recipient that the sentiment insert is removable so that the card can be sent again. (But... why buy a stamp when a post-it note will do?)</p><p>I have a die that cuts out photo corners. I figured it's a great way to use scraps AND make my cards reusable! For these three cards, I put 3 stacked inserts on the inside.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqwZ9cgsrnbAt6YtkexJvAPljBqJqtLq2Yn-CRBGsVhmnF9fvU_83d12XEgF2Ji-EXgZoHHpimzEe45gOqbvxtdNT0MUqw0lZJR_HVL9rjsS3BISmylfxxyLum2B6YchibHdfBL87VCkL2/s797/Resuable+Greeting+Cards+1A_small.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="643" data-original-width="797" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqwZ9cgsrnbAt6YtkexJvAPljBqJqtLq2Yn-CRBGsVhmnF9fvU_83d12XEgF2Ji-EXgZoHHpimzEe45gOqbvxtdNT0MUqw0lZJR_HVL9rjsS3BISmylfxxyLum2B6YchibHdfBL87VCkL2/s320/Resuable+Greeting+Cards+1A_small.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU0z0idYDfj9I7FUDCjERncZzpelJAtPyZFklmjQwNx0RgZmzs9Rr6rmQAw_Mun0swsjQ1yEagZjKTdVN-IrIstpW-rXE6V4vA9U5o_V1i50jcNSqhbzvQtzxayVCdWSgjMsYainHVH_nH/s797/Resuable+Cards+Inside+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="729" data-original-width="797" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU0z0idYDfj9I7FUDCjERncZzpelJAtPyZFklmjQwNx0RgZmzs9Rr6rmQAw_Mun0swsjQ1yEagZjKTdVN-IrIstpW-rXE6V4vA9U5o_V1i50jcNSqhbzvQtzxayVCdWSgjMsYainHVH_nH/s320/Resuable+Cards+Inside+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Here's an image with the Birthday Card's sentiments pulled out so you can see them.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2ZvSg2HnlU5pTv9dWYkgmone43OpPfWirkPvT5XxdBE7EraZ2fAjxZiGXh9d5u-eY0jMLbSr9UgDJ3EW_Nyvc5kceJdDS72kk9gSdFoz9dJADnTaOMfbfGIKUGXv8CMVeCRcF7fgr9CYG/s730/Resuable+Cards+Inside+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="694" data-original-width="730" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2ZvSg2HnlU5pTv9dWYkgmone43OpPfWirkPvT5XxdBE7EraZ2fAjxZiGXh9d5u-eY0jMLbSr9UgDJ3EW_Nyvc5kceJdDS72kk9gSdFoz9dJADnTaOMfbfGIKUGXv8CMVeCRcF7fgr9CYG/s320/Resuable+Cards+Inside+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>This way, the recipient can keep your heartfelt note and send the lovingly handmade card on to brighten another person's day! Make bridge cards!! Continuing my experiments with <a href="https://www.fairycardmaker.com/2020/11/bridge-cards-for-holidays.html" target="_blank">bridge cards</a>, I figured they would be a fantastic way to employ the large image stamps I've struggled to use in the past. You know, the ones that take up an <b>entire</b> A2 card front. Of course, I could make 5 x 7 inch cards, but it's a pain to make envelopes for them because an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper is a smidge too small for my large envelope die.</p><p>Enter, the bridge card.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMfF_MU4PiDJe9h2iCnxYT8_-ZekQl2vtDKhYxdU1a1TypOAbekPf8oc5AJaIGcLjzIfNgLFwadEInP439lWYRHzKTD4zleNu0aOz1MXrbYjWtgTRu9-Wzu3u51UcwgRCSUk3y9bHJnTnG/s797/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+1small.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="644" data-original-width="797" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMfF_MU4PiDJe9h2iCnxYT8_-ZekQl2vtDKhYxdU1a1TypOAbekPf8oc5AJaIGcLjzIfNgLFwadEInP439lWYRHzKTD4zleNu0aOz1MXrbYjWtgTRu9-Wzu3u51UcwgRCSUk3y9bHJnTnG/s320/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+1small.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>I have some stamps from <a href="https://highhopesstamps.com/" target="_blank">High Hopes Rubber Stamps</a>. I've had them a long time. I bought them because I believed larger images would be much easier to colour. I failed to account for the fact that large images would be harder to incorporate on a regular sized card.</p><p>Well, they are perfect for bridge cards! The image spans the gap in the front to create a free-standing card with dimension!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL2nvT1Gl5Q5_QwtNChDs-azZng9O9-nPSIU_DOxvyEY7CVRz0cujHARg67vkewDWYSKdnq-UdS5By8hEdlgFIAecwvoUnstlycO2lnXaGNS6ewcLqePD8BCtH2u8Jhppb_3glkNMgzYR4/s797/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+2small.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="643" data-original-width="797" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL2nvT1Gl5Q5_QwtNChDs-azZng9O9-nPSIU_DOxvyEY7CVRz0cujHARg67vkewDWYSKdnq-UdS5By8hEdlgFIAecwvoUnstlycO2lnXaGNS6ewcLqePD8BCtH2u8Jhppb_3glkNMgzYR4/s320/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+2small.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>I really like how this one turned out. I coloured these cards with my Copic Marker alcohol markers. These cards are also a fantastic way to use up scraps! The paper in the centre is a scrap as well as the two, half-inch strips along the sides! Plus, it still folds flat to put in the envelope.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMtb6Jc_oLpgBRsv4XbJv_8lMzUQgspVoAtWOOruJUbYdGQkO4HuOV8Mswo8hfmRmClFhk3fDVdyWwQ8_rMNqXwTVK55oZRcJCKPobOEiG0wgWTOzQdibHrniSmhAc7U4MJPCwXd4zNwew/s797/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+3small.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="642" data-original-width="797" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMtb6Jc_oLpgBRsv4XbJv_8lMzUQgspVoAtWOOruJUbYdGQkO4HuOV8Mswo8hfmRmClFhk3fDVdyWwQ8_rMNqXwTVK55oZRcJCKPobOEiG0wgWTOzQdibHrniSmhAc7U4MJPCwXd4zNwew/s320/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+3small.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>I really enjoyed colouring this Santa with the kittens.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKkcUwnPjeV-CtmD8ftK2JC8qd_jRmcrQD8n8CWaw4HNkhoe4vvDlaWCrpJY8rrAhDsAYXeXz-EbN7lFrDfGqiCBn21mrH5qdPHF5_z46J7NWOYAXtsz2xjL6vsuFNAzCwTOl8fpQ_IXU4/s860/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+4small.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="695" data-original-width="860" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKkcUwnPjeV-CtmD8ftK2JC8qd_jRmcrQD8n8CWaw4HNkhoe4vvDlaWCrpJY8rrAhDsAYXeXz-EbN7lFrDfGqiCBn21mrH5qdPHF5_z46J7NWOYAXtsz2xjL6vsuFNAzCwTOl8fpQ_IXU4/s320/Santa+Kitties+Bridge+Card+4small.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>The only thing about the vertical bridge cards is that it leaves only a tall skinny space to write on the back. I used a stitched hill to bridge this card, even though Santa and the reindeer would have been wide enough on their own. I had thought about doing a roof top with layered scallops. I might try that next time. For this Santa, I added some sparkle on his coat trimmings and hat with Nuvo glitter drops. Therefore, I rarely make cards in landscape orientation. These bridge cards create a way for cards to stand freely, no matter the orientation!</p><p>I worked out dimensions different from Jennifer's so that I could maximize the writing space on the backs. I started with some portrait orientation slimline (or tall skinny) cards. The door wasn't quite wide enough to span the gap, so I put a banner behind it. The one with the row of houses was definitely much easier. I really like how Santa and his reindeer turned out. They are from the <a href="https://shop.hellobluebird.com/collections/clear-stamps/products/hb-2136" target="_blank">North Pole Littles stamp set</a> by Hello Bluebird who have such sweet storybook style images. I mounted them on acetate and then strung paper twine between them to be the reigns. (And, of course, there is glitter on Santa's hat!)</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkxDqVPXKASVcwUz4LugU5mBb75Q4eZdX2zU7QXU4z93GMtJxWTxHUwyj9reFpXs1tPOpMONb6fVD1lDCgcW-zhn1YSpt-ZHvQuTDg9NLoUDM8efnSBgB7l-e9EG19qVr3RBkxx3wqGDeK/s798/Santa+Bridge+Card+2A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="798" data-original-width="426" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkxDqVPXKASVcwUz4LugU5mBb75Q4eZdX2zU7QXU4z93GMtJxWTxHUwyj9reFpXs1tPOpMONb6fVD1lDCgcW-zhn1YSpt-ZHvQuTDg9NLoUDM8efnSBgB7l-e9EG19qVr3RBkxx3wqGDeK/s320/Santa+Bridge+Card+2A.JPG" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixhbbsKWCeF-mlw8TacYh6VxKK01HfWyGzuOaO30HPC-B3AGpn_9fmTo1m9AG1FI_VqayZbPPNwxonpC8M6d7sUdHZDgAqYAyjXXS-225C6FQXEhb4NHL3xMqR1kpbbZqXTLEuA82pSG6I/s798/Santa+Bridge+Card+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="798" data-original-width="412" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixhbbsKWCeF-mlw8TacYh6VxKK01HfWyGzuOaO30HPC-B3AGpn_9fmTo1m9AG1FI_VqayZbPPNwxonpC8M6d7sUdHZDgAqYAyjXXS-225C6FQXEhb4NHL3xMqR1kpbbZqXTLEuA82pSG6I/s320/Santa+Bridge+Card+1A.JPG" /></a></p><p>These are how the landscape versions of A2 (4.25 x 5.5 inch) cards turned out.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG0i1yhx914O6vjP6atcxD5yO-V25U43vojcML2VYv4bqM1WkzU_zhPbmLQRZ303rS6LDrlQKJv-8EK30HCjN3fvtVXA8e3SBcB2oTSqKjb_vEELK0TJFHAhhIGbwGwDns-QjPz3vEeEH5/s798/Christmas+Tree+Bridge+Card+2A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="683" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG0i1yhx914O6vjP6atcxD5yO-V25U43vojcML2VYv4bqM1WkzU_zhPbmLQRZ303rS6LDrlQKJv-8EK30HCjN3fvtVXA8e3SBcB2oTSqKjb_vEELK0TJFHAhhIGbwGwDns-QjPz3vEeEH5/s320/Christmas+Tree+Bridge+Card+2A.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6KAnkVDZvZEW8e58eqvlUdzFD0L33eVRuf2p3_jabIVOb2T4ZPHM9377SkU8nCqYWsknbygR6Wtc41IC2fzPR98v1XO3dF4_xyAX006-jK5AF64IcUXKE2ZQDNn_h32GRts_OG7WmiYGu/s798/Christmas+Tree+Bridge+Card+3A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="677" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6KAnkVDZvZEW8e58eqvlUdzFD0L33eVRuf2p3_jabIVOb2T4ZPHM9377SkU8nCqYWsknbygR6Wtc41IC2fzPR98v1XO3dF4_xyAX006-jK5AF64IcUXKE2ZQDNn_h32GRts_OG7WmiYGu/s320/Christmas+Tree+Bridge+Card+3A.JPG" width="320" /></a></div></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I used a heat embossed Christmas tree stamp and coordinating die, plus a die cut sentiment to span the gap. So great to find ways to use what we've got!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxfHBZSeciWn3KrysMs8W6TLkPX31L9a6HJ_WN8tiu8afGZcF7LFmF3UXanoRrmdfS7aZHDGItLtYJYSFR5CDGoRnh9ELT-lUDShfYpk1VTRTKL8KsdkrdrmZH5cX56dQS5O_KcKi7z6lo/s798/Penguin+Bridge+Card+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="798" data-original-width="700" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxfHBZSeciWn3KrysMs8W6TLkPX31L9a6HJ_WN8tiu8afGZcF7LFmF3UXanoRrmdfS7aZHDGItLtYJYSFR5CDGoRnh9ELT-lUDShfYpk1VTRTKL8KsdkrdrmZH5cX56dQS5O_KcKi7z6lo/s320/Penguin+Bridge+Card+1A.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">These bridge cards are truly economical on patterned paper. What a fantastic way to use up scrap strips in the centre panel! The downside to it, thought, is that the portrait versions have such a narrow space on the back to write. There really isn't a lot of room. I could put a tent-fold flap back there to create more room, but I decided to work out the dimensions for "open front" shadow box cards (as opposed to <a href="https://www.fairycardmaker.com/2017/12/christmas-diorama-cards.html" target="_blank">diorama-style cards with a framed window</a>, like I made before). These achieve the same dimensional effect but offer more writing room on the back than the bridge cards. This one isn't quite the one I was aiming for. I will try some more where the "front bench" is really a scene that spans the gap. But this was the one I made to test the sizing.</div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI9a9EupC37x9SvxFZNZBvVpebwPWibn-zvoCz-ux41IXvWP-hPoepeb4Hl1KYVVTJsa3Fp6lme6A-ALE97dhuF5iAwMQHKrFNn8TtAV6QdG01CBeKNgbm3Zb5-aliT1CAus6vOkxMDZSg/s798/Penguin+Box+Card+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="798" data-original-width="788" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI9a9EupC37x9SvxFZNZBvVpebwPWibn-zvoCz-ux41IXvWP-hPoepeb4Hl1KYVVTJsa3Fp6lme6A-ALE97dhuF5iAwMQHKrFNn8TtAV6QdG01CBeKNgbm3Zb5-aliT1CAus6vOkxMDZSg/s320/Penguin+Box+Card+1A.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Have you started your holiday cards?? Sorry that I've been MIA from the blog! I am fortunate enough to be able to work full time during the world-wide pandemic, so I haven't found myself with a bunch of free time. But that doesn't mean I haven't been crafting! I have tried to use up supplies and work on projects that I always meant to do but never got around to.</p><p>One of those projects I've been working on for several years now is perfecting the mini-album build. Hinges have been the last sticking point: both for the pages and for the album cover. In the last few months I have solved both! I have a walkthrough video of these (scroll to the end), but here are some pictures too.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiimN1odJeIf414qzo1rF6dpcM18eO20KIJnCD77lckeY0cSWPA52OK7mIKCd4x4umCnlgM4HdClfacn9miqzPOFAlbsPPozjEttsfUbFjmAcA87rS8WFKveopCkuFSreOUsq4IZp_YaDcv/s798/Hockey+Tape+Scrapbook+Mini+Albums+1A.JPG" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="653" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiimN1odJeIf414qzo1rF6dpcM18eO20KIJnCD77lckeY0cSWPA52OK7mIKCd4x4umCnlgM4HdClfacn9miqzPOFAlbsPPozjEttsfUbFjmAcA87rS8WFKveopCkuFSreOUsq4IZp_YaDcv/s640/Hockey+Tape+Scrapbook+Mini+Albums+1A.JPG" width="640" /></a></p><p>I found a way to stitch-bind ribbon hinges. I tried a few ways that were not quite perfect but I have tweaked it and now I am happy. For the covers, I found the ribbon too thin. I really liked the versatility of duct-tape for album cover hinges but, after trying it once, I decided against it. It was not quite right.</p><p>I've seen people using a "black construction tape" which looks good but you can tear it with your fingers - like masking tape or painter's tape. That seriously worries me. So, I went looking for a cloth tape and, being in Canada, the first thing that popped up was hockey tape!</p><p>EDIT: I thought I was the first to think of this supply for paper crafting, but Following The Paper Trail on YouTube used it in Feb 2019. Her video is here: <a href="https://youtu.be/f4tMFVxapD4">https://youtu.be/f4tMFVxapD4 </a>.</p><p>Three of these albums use hockey tape for the spine hinges. I wrapped the outer spine on all but one (the blue one). So, the blue one shows the hockey tape all around the edges. The album on the left is included because of how I've used hockey tape on the inside.</p><p>First, let's take a closer look at the hockey tape on the outside covers. (Keep in mind, only one album is actually finished, so you're looking different stages of progress here.)</p><p>The blue one shows fully exposed hockey tape hinges. You can see the seams, but if I had made the cover paper a little bigger, you wouldn't notice as much. The flexibility of this cover is amazing!</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT4DVt__mxRqOTIkiL357lo3mABeTo1ONf8-SdffdklN8aV2WfxPAXdltWQuuwTAYxVNgb2fUlKU0QRY2gvydpiAXa60OBFs5A3v2tCD34NkWNaS6Q7Y4N_G16nmtOUvoYGZuBac-SsUQh/s798/IMG_3192.JPG" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="521" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT4DVt__mxRqOTIkiL357lo3mABeTo1ONf8-SdffdklN8aV2WfxPAXdltWQuuwTAYxVNgb2fUlKU0QRY2gvydpiAXa60OBFs5A3v2tCD34NkWNaS6Q7Y4N_G16nmtOUvoYGZuBac-SsUQh/s640/IMG_3192.JPG" width="640" /></a></p><p>The black looks particularly good, in my opinion. I wrapped the outer spine of this album with thin paper, but I did not wrap the inside. That hides the hockey tape seams on the outside, but doesn't make the cover too stiff with paper.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5tW8EGvQZ3BoSDbOlLZloPw_OiyApUoIWg2FOWnxot_I95SUM3-zeSJgvLDtjbtZ7MC2Tik3q7hzTQE-6qw4Jk3he3iqUTA-YdgsVVzHsNxNMWN9taCo8ekgGSgjfLHLMjKCq-9Hksxwx/s798/IMG_3190.JPG" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="576" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5tW8EGvQZ3BoSDbOlLZloPw_OiyApUoIWg2FOWnxot_I95SUM3-zeSJgvLDtjbtZ7MC2Tik3q7hzTQE-6qw4Jk3he3iqUTA-YdgsVVzHsNxNMWN9taCo8ekgGSgjfLHLMjKCq-9Hksxwx/s640/IMG_3190.JPG" width="640" /></a></p><p>I did the same on the red one, but this one I rubbed gold Nuvo Embellishment Mousse on with my finger to give an aged distressed look. The hockey tape takes mediums very well!</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzboxCCQUA-iXPTpmYS2-_lwSWBIinTL5zz9IruPhPC-wKimvVTg4qIRqBEjkfUjrZZRwK11VJd-2PYvCXVmT8A7uGML6yYJ5kWshFrEP-P3WcuWZ5pm22IC6qiruI3ob6WmfoChv4Acov/s798/IMG_3191.JPG" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="595" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzboxCCQUA-iXPTpmYS2-_lwSWBIinTL5zz9IruPhPC-wKimvVTg4qIRqBEjkfUjrZZRwK11VJd-2PYvCXVmT8A7uGML6yYJ5kWshFrEP-P3WcuWZ5pm22IC6qiruI3ob6WmfoChv4Acov/s640/IMG_3191.JPG" width="640" /></a></p><p>Hockey tape comes in "white" too, but it's not a pure "white". I show you in the video. I'm not going to use the white. If I want white covers, I will use kraft-tex. I also show you in the video that I think my new favourite combination is kraft-tex for the covers and hockey tape only on the pages. But the hockey tape on the album cover hinges is far more flexible than the kraft-tex <b>and</b> far more affordable. So, once my stash of black kraft-tex runs out, I use the hockey tape and only buy the kraft-tex in white. (I show you a kraft-tex one in the video.)</p><p>Here's how the inside spines look. All three have the hockey tape exposed on the inside. I think it looks just fine!</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkUpz8_BcFY0E5hyphenhyphenA3mebqyH7pyHSG7E1alkBl8yUiqG79sD5aJmkcNkk8yAtjgulvf5tRSvn9nX9aOORc0n6qRTza0gvIpZUbFxm8uO9Uvf24NobjoKIOSN4CiOi3bILzc4FaVJA7yLWY/s798/IMG_3198.JPG" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="599" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkUpz8_BcFY0E5hyphenhyphenA3mebqyH7pyHSG7E1alkBl8yUiqG79sD5aJmkcNkk8yAtjgulvf5tRSvn9nX9aOORc0n6qRTza0gvIpZUbFxm8uO9Uvf24NobjoKIOSN4CiOi3bILzc4FaVJA7yLWY/s640/IMG_3198.JPG" width="640" /></a></p><p>As you can see, I also used hockey tape on the insides to edge the pages! Since these are proto-type experiments, I needed them to be quick and use materials I have a lot of. Well, I have A LOT of business envelopes. But, envelopes are not very durable, so I used the hockey tape to reinforce them and it looks great, feels great on the fingers, and makes the pages match the cover! Triple win!</p><p>On one album (on the left), I painted the hockey tape with a red acrylic, metallic paint. It makes the page feel a little rough - exactly like painted canvas. Once mostly covered by the decorated pages though, I'm not worried about it.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUKuGBMeYWupnJ-BBOyrhKI5Y0wGirLdSycNWwyzy-z_GXTlHH9cy8gPPUr0vc5RkRJoXTTnFs7oFmr5SsU-nQb1S6ra1m4E34WPWiBkvYv6oB0pL3XwTYkPXPLHwBr4MI77RMQ3onDHbr/s798/IMG_3193.JPG" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="578" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUKuGBMeYWupnJ-BBOyrhKI5Y0wGirLdSycNWwyzy-z_GXTlHH9cy8gPPUr0vc5RkRJoXTTnFs7oFmr5SsU-nQb1S6ra1m4E34WPWiBkvYv6oB0pL3XwTYkPXPLHwBr4MI77RMQ3onDHbr/s640/IMG_3193.JPG" width="640" /></a></p><p>Here's a close up of the flexibility of these spines. I can turn the book right inside out! Because the black one has paper on the outside, it's a little bit stiffer trying to turn it inside out. However, all of these albums stay shut very well when standing up - i.e. <b>no alligator mouth</b>!!</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinOr77IgfeerjRnYxIB9y1u7LFWhV31RzESxJINwOAy1ZocCu5x1HZUfUwRkRfOxXic_bdXt3p4re7_uxTPB6_opfm1ZoZrauhcbZWPmXipMz9zgFQ5QxwWMnx3j86TlXs6kSHaONt9n-k/s798/IMG_3197.JPG" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="767" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinOr77IgfeerjRnYxIB9y1u7LFWhV31RzESxJINwOAy1ZocCu5x1HZUfUwRkRfOxXic_bdXt3p4re7_uxTPB6_opfm1ZoZrauhcbZWPmXipMz9zgFQ5QxwWMnx3j86TlXs6kSHaONt9n-k/s640/IMG_3197.JPG" width="640" /></a></p><p>I'm so happy I found this medium! Hockey tape is hard to tear and pretty cheap! It comes in a small range of colours - but that doesn't matter if you can paint it! I forgot to say in the video, it comes in two widths too but I found the narrower one was enough.</p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/eAQS-Kpp4YE" target="_blank">CLICK to watch the VIDEO of these prototypes!</a></p>Fairy Cardmaker, Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01203808294644401100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7181327794077433092.post-26447580509542274492020-03-15T14:57:00.001-04:002020-04-02T10:15:55.873-04:00Pop Up Slider Easter Card<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
There's a new pop-up slider die cut on the market that creates a mechanism for the pop up feature. This one does not involve a slit in your card, so it's different from the others. I very nearly bought it the day it became available! BUT... as I DIY'd the slit version, I decided to attempt a DIY version of this one first too.<br />
<br />
And it worked. And it was easier than the slit version! So, I used it on this <a href="https://icraftgifts.com/handmade/111339/happy-easter-sliding-pop-up-card.php" target="_blank">Easter card</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The bunny's ears are peeking out of the wagon. Pull the tab at the bottom and UP pops the bunny with its Easter message!<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQmznEXXi1YkHBEFDWYZdPiWTt7jJ3vMc0bjkuSj3WrGsjNJf_G3eyDXVFadax-iHdrymcOLNKgl_9S9kcMAe9FvlIyTJ-S2rbNGtQVOvwDk_0nTpcR2g1RJpC5LiMuGz3QgnJXSgNxMoq/s1600/Easter+Bunny+Popup2+small.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="797" data-original-width="582" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQmznEXXi1YkHBEFDWYZdPiWTt7jJ3vMc0bjkuSj3WrGsjNJf_G3eyDXVFadax-iHdrymcOLNKgl_9S9kcMAe9FvlIyTJ-S2rbNGtQVOvwDk_0nTpcR2g1RJpC5LiMuGz3QgnJXSgNxMoq/s320/Easter+Bunny+Popup2+small.JPG" width="233" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I think it's fun! I used distress oxide ink for the sky, splattered it with water for texture, and then sealed it with a Vaseline-glycerine mixture that is similar to micro-glaze. The stitched hill is raised on foam tape to hide the pop-up slider mechanism. (I have a second design like this in mind but I don't know if I'll get to it.)<br />
<br />
I coloured my bunny with my Copic markers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I like this new style of slider. I will have to experiment with it more in the future.<br />

What's your favourite style of interactive card?</div>

I made this scrapbook mini album from #10 business envelopes for a
friend. This album would work well for pictures of family, or school pictures,
or a specific event like a trip or a play day or summer time, etc. Also
makes a nice brag book for the mantle or to gift to grandma and
grandpa!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTyV9I_DmAcoRAv3-4L3kA2JTdZ2rUH5Toiin3R39id5oSqbNCP1Qc-O3MN8IKNXrdjxZQESPIdaaSPYeu-YepzdIy2MvGl96qqr6Gv2I4snzB_OIy8ZnHoPofKdmrSXU1T9bQvaZ10I8j/s1600/IMG_2935.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTyV9I_DmAcoRAv3-4L3kA2JTdZ2rUH5Toiin3R39id5oSqbNCP1Qc-O3MN8IKNXrdjxZQESPIdaaSPYeu-YepzdIy2MvGl96qqr6Gv2I4snzB_OIy8ZnHoPofKdmrSXU1T9bQvaZ10I8j/s320/IMG_2935.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The album is stitch-bound with ribbon page bindings and embroidery
floss thread. I followed a video tutorial (in a language I didn't understand) for making the stitches and worked
out my own dimensions.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivKmEVp4Wjp3_ETACbrENG5G91lHkDIQbfvB_P25vxk_Kxz0SyLgq65R76FLRpIX3NXS366OBS0v8kG9zRpcj5NOvOd36EPzf1-YE8W2TEVqOSOQC_JSoqA3mukP_E3rxcxNKPUJxtZ5ku/s1600/IMG_2939.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivKmEVp4Wjp3_ETACbrENG5G91lHkDIQbfvB_P25vxk_Kxz0SyLgq65R76FLRpIX3NXS366OBS0v8kG9zRpcj5NOvOd36EPzf1-YE8W2TEVqOSOQC_JSoqA3mukP_E3rxcxNKPUJxtZ5ku/s320/IMG_2939.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
For landscape photos, it holds wallet photos: 3.5x2.5 inches or the
smaller 2x3 inches. These sizes are 1/4 of a 5x7 and 4x6 photo
respectively. It will also hold half of a 4x6 (at 4x3) in but portrait orientation
only. It can hold these in landscape if they are not stuck down (i.e. rest the photo inside the pockets and
pull them out to see). With 20 pages, this album will hold at least 35 photos. <br />

The cover includes a homemade polaroid-shaped embellishment. I painted a chipboard dragonfly and then stamped on it. I stenciled a heart in the centre with platinum embellishment mousse coloured with paint.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgTGXyq9If8uSpk3Wz6SmySq6gLVsfVxozecRabIbw_ras_ovaHEde5hlkqPDZ5ok04sOAxj1MhR4sUlo8XSMkLumjx3gyQGHcDgN2pTtvx3I2tVWigLs60CeMpUPs4xVCW99oMH_ySR3K/s1600/IMG_2936.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgTGXyq9If8uSpk3Wz6SmySq6gLVsfVxozecRabIbw_ras_ovaHEde5hlkqPDZ5ok04sOAxj1MhR4sUlo8XSMkLumjx3gyQGHcDgN2pTtvx3I2tVWigLs60CeMpUPs4xVCW99oMH_ySR3K/s320/IMG_2936.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I tried out some different page styles in this album. I liked this one the best. It's a slide-lock closure. Slide the butterfly embellishment to the left and the belt opens so you can lift the page flap. The other style I tried was a slot-lock, but I didn't like that one as much.<br />
<br />
I've posted a video walkthrough of this <a href="https://youtu.be/pd4XF70hY74" target="_blank">envelope scrapbook mini album</a> on my YouTube channel. There's a reveal of what I used to edge my covers. (I also put
it on the pages to make them more durable.) I made a few of these covers before determining I liked it. I hope to do a future video on those practice models one day.</div>

I'm going to host a tall, skinny card class. So, I thought I would practice on my nephew's birthday card. I love how it turned out! I broke open some NEW supplies for this one.<br />
<br />
I started with an ink-blended sky. I used my home-made cloud stencil and my new, make-up brush ink-blending brushes (that I got from Amazon for Christmas).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJsfp_dPyTTh295ZFFzJ510l4aIu4Wtw9Zodr5QItP_Sfz1mJdJHtNBcJlLDMiidhS4a3BMHHDuCYNY3fFms-RdyACmFo6sPKdqLAPtg9CHgV_2ViaQjxVR0WuyhsJj9BmC0b5U8fs8AQ7/s1600/Tall+Skinny+Dragon+Birthday+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="797" data-original-width="462" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJsfp_dPyTTh295ZFFzJ510l4aIu4Wtw9Zodr5QItP_Sfz1mJdJHtNBcJlLDMiidhS4a3BMHHDuCYNY3fFms-RdyACmFo6sPKdqLAPtg9CHgV_2ViaQjxVR0WuyhsJj9BmC0b5U8fs8AQ7/s320/Tall+Skinny+Dragon+Birthday+1A.JPG" width="185" /></a></div>
<br />
I have SO many #10 business envelopes still from when my old firm existed. When it merged with another firm, their old business envelopes with the name and address became useless. They let me have them and I have many (hundreds). I've been meaning to try tall, skinny cards for a while. Mojo Monday has some sketches for some.<br />
<br />
I modelled this handmade birthday card after <a href="http://www.kwernerdesign.com/blog/sketch-challenge-with-jennifer-mcguire-new-stamps-from-sunny-studio/" target="_blank">>>>this card (click to see!)<<<</a> by Kristina Werner, blended with a <a href="https://www.fairycardmaker.com/2019/08/shimmer-dragon.html" target="_blank">>>>dragon card I made (click to see!)<<<</a> before with the same style of sky.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi59SokdMyCNvJ1gVTNIW7tk4JrLib_qiQWJOzGzSkvZrYKjadhZXTL7UHs8Ok1nCoh1QLj3cdpGAeWc3bV5yYQikxNB_Pbd1viRDd2qFVRz1AOYGWlxYd3IwcOrEZvp_FL_y5USCWlH_xz/s1600/Tall+Skinny+Dragon+Birthday+1B.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="797" data-original-width="567" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi59SokdMyCNvJ1gVTNIW7tk4JrLib_qiQWJOzGzSkvZrYKjadhZXTL7UHs8Ok1nCoh1QLj3cdpGAeWc3bV5yYQikxNB_Pbd1viRDd2qFVRz1AOYGWlxYd3IwcOrEZvp_FL_y5USCWlH_xz/s320/Tall+Skinny+Dragon+Birthday+1B.JPG" width="227" /></a></div>
I also used my new <a href="https://www.clearlybesottedstamps.com/products/dragon-plushies" target="_blank">Dragon Plushies stamp set </a>from Clearly Besotted. (The set in the link is not the same as mine. I got one with a cloud stamp instead of the one in the link with the really cute sentiments. I would have preferred the cute sentiments.)<br />
<br />
I coloured the dragons with my Copic markers, using my new favourite dragon-green combination (YG03, YG09, C5). I used my sparkle pen on the horns and candles. I've tilted this picture so you can see the shimmer.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8YQu0qVOvJrmIsHL6I1DlxaEw0l1EMSU323hoAPDGiPBbZ_q7rHC4RDeW0YK6ZTfrH7UZ3fWOGYu-bN0Xg_CxoKT7oz6Wq1NqzxT-m9-gkpz7HKm8X8KlmblQwDnCe27jr9goodmet5b7/s1600/Tall+Skinny+Dragon+Birthday+1C.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="797" data-original-width="613" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8YQu0qVOvJrmIsHL6I1DlxaEw0l1EMSU323hoAPDGiPBbZ_q7rHC4RDeW0YK6ZTfrH7UZ3fWOGYu-bN0Xg_CxoKT7oz6Wq1NqzxT-m9-gkpz7HKm8X8KlmblQwDnCe27jr9goodmet5b7/s320/Tall+Skinny+Dragon+Birthday+1C.JPG" width="246" /></a></div>
The sentiment is white embossed on black cardstock for high contrast. I used my cloud border die to cut the base cloud.<br />
<br />
I think it turned out cute! And, you know what? This card is the perfect size to hold cash or a cheque - the oft-preferred gift of teenagers!</div>

I am definitely one of the crazed Baby Yoda fans sweeping the internet. We have really enjoyed the first season of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and we are looking forward to the second season! My sister made me a couple crocheted dolls of the Yoda-esque youngster for Christmas. She used a combination of doll ideas to build her Baby Yoda.<br />
<br />
She did make this one with the baby's signature brown robe, but she also made me a Santa outfit to dress him seasonally.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhphY9lg5RJANu5TGBNFp77LNkUpg19x6UPfCE09truRnf0wcbhK_B_A0RpAlLq-1T1AEHoV-PS90m5_tMUa0Ou-rDzbcMBQ5EOQSmfyJ0m8HsEri0nbr_Tl7Loz8HC0ldUaKXHr33kPcS9/s1600/Santa+Yoda.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1451" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhphY9lg5RJANu5TGBNFp77LNkUpg19x6UPfCE09truRnf0wcbhK_B_A0RpAlLq-1T1AEHoV-PS90m5_tMUa0Ou-rDzbcMBQ5EOQSmfyJ0m8HsEri0nbr_Tl7Loz8HC0ldUaKXHr33kPcS9/s320/Santa+Yoda.JPG" width="290" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Isn't he cute! In this picture, his hat pushes his hears down a little. Normally, they stick out more, like the character's. And, since I couldn't decide what shade of green to make him, I also got one made in this very soft green gray yarn:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7m6xUiiuVSIDQvdPc8CmXKsPlJihj5GHFcE2IMdvR1RECMMnvh5RFJbwLzuKcRss3uNF8Dk10SW1j5d3KzANOHmi1CJr7tWkEP3-3EOjrUhC6sxeDLq6VNpN2bxJoUYTgR0mi-HkuQvpl/s1600/Soft_Yoda.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1500" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7m6xUiiuVSIDQvdPc8CmXKsPlJihj5GHFcE2IMdvR1RECMMnvh5RFJbwLzuKcRss3uNF8Dk10SW1j5d3KzANOHmi1CJr7tWkEP3-3EOjrUhC6sxeDLq6VNpN2bxJoUYTgR0mi-HkuQvpl/s320/Soft_Yoda.JPG" width="299" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Since this one is a soft yarn, the ears are floppy. He is adorable! I like the embroidery floss around the eyes better than the thicker ones.<br />
<br />
These guys stand about 13-13.5 inches. Here's the small version, which is more like 8 inches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb0ejI2lXNC26a_L9SlAoUFdD6FCuYy6GziZ9RFJyu2fFNqx0_Gcj4sjLQx1oczdF7oGTZc_37VCOztAbwR4UrNSOQUWpUtbSmuSvM4jw50LJ9uICdLPFPFid-PE59Zow6qw1-CZAiPmVd/s1600/Baby+Yoda_small.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1596" data-original-width="1600" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb0ejI2lXNC26a_L9SlAoUFdD6FCuYy6GziZ9RFJyu2fFNqx0_Gcj4sjLQx1oczdF7oGTZc_37VCOztAbwR4UrNSOQUWpUtbSmuSvM4jw50LJ9uICdLPFPFid-PE59Zow6qw1-CZAiPmVd/s320/Baby+Yoda_small.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The yard around this one's eyes is split to make it thinner too, like the floss version. My husband favours the dark-side, so my sister made a dual-ended light saber for this doll. He's currently at the office on display for the week.<br /><br />
Handmade Holidays are the best!<br />

I needed to make my mother-in-law a birthday card. I saw <a href="https://youtu.be/GZ8NqO-WvSU" target="_blank">a tutorial</a> by <a href="https://mixedupcraft.com/2019/12/02/elegant-spinner-box-card/" target="_blank">Mixed Up Craft</a>. In her spinner version tutorial (that I linked), she links back to her floating element tutorial. I don't like square cards, so I made the 5 x 7 version but used the popped up sentiment bit from the spinner version.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTxcj0GJGpGExRBOLIAJk6PIiPDWEf7FO7vOUPGX7_roFhXWjmC7cacmEtbmh36tlaR8apP-wTXw-pkwoy2nhshzySEXarkcMF87m2EwkOBOYtig41IDvmorWK-oaoK6FZagchLtnBaQgz/s1600/Floating+Aperture+Card+Bday1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="593" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTxcj0GJGpGExRBOLIAJk6PIiPDWEf7FO7vOUPGX7_roFhXWjmC7cacmEtbmh36tlaR8apP-wTXw-pkwoy2nhshzySEXarkcMF87m2EwkOBOYtig41IDvmorWK-oaoK6FZagchLtnBaQgz/s320/Floating+Aperture+Card+Bday1A.JPG" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It's basically a twist on a regular shadow box card. Instead of putting the aperture on a flat side of the box, you put it on the corner. That allows you to use acetate to "pop out" of the aperture and to have the sentiment to the same with a very clever "bridge" piece behind it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJG1DP1ELHAx7jcFhFAwz5HjGDVCMjdeAyNcHhHOVpyOzdxFfOMAa_Y8WkLalrBQ2B3Z8wJYoWnHbAOkXpJyjix6nuAAgYTXHPOVzFzKHDebh5lz6rEzlkVzjvqVxNtkZ_2dgpxOEDTUnU/s1600/Floating+Aperture+Card+Bday1B.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="584" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJG1DP1ELHAx7jcFhFAwz5HjGDVCMjdeAyNcHhHOVpyOzdxFfOMAa_Y8WkLalrBQ2B3Z8wJYoWnHbAOkXpJyjix6nuAAgYTXHPOVzFzKHDebh5lz6rEzlkVzjvqVxNtkZ_2dgpxOEDTUnU/s320/Floating+Aperture+Card+Bday1B.JPG" width="235" /></a></div>
You end up with this clever diamond shaped card that folds perfectly flat for mailing. Love it! I've already figured out the dimensions for an A2 version too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLNA_9SIjfQHgHb1Qc-2HkKLlxzTa3dCtcgJ1wcTKkiQ34Rzy8H4kcTm3mc5k9IQmOYrjIHwp9atkoF0CrECxjJPUr01QhHtbMw299FCWptTeHALoR4wcLQImFY9mZR7EPmAncCp4obW8C/s1600/Floating+Aperture+Card+Bday1C.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="733" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLNA_9SIjfQHgHb1Qc-2HkKLlxzTa3dCtcgJ1wcTKkiQ34Rzy8H4kcTm3mc5k9IQmOYrjIHwp9atkoF0CrECxjJPUr01QhHtbMw299FCWptTeHALoR4wcLQImFY9mZR7EPmAncCp4obW8C/s320/Floating+Aperture+Card+Bday1C.JPG" width="295" /></a></div>
I used my Nuvo Embellishment mousse on some cardstock and then cut the snowflakes out. I wanted to add just a touch of shine. The gifts are made from paper scraps. I love using my scraps to make gift boxes for cards. It works for birthdays and Christmas!<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
I think I will be making more of these! I think I will go ahead and
figure out the dimensions for a landscape version of both sizes. The A7 will
have to be constructed out of a front and back piece but the A2 can fit on a
single piece of paper. To be honest, now that I think about it, I think a two piece construction
might be simpler anyway, so it's easier to figure out what outside and
inside areas need paper!<br />
<br />
So many possibilities with this design! I hope you are inspired too!</div>

I wanted to make an uplifting card for my husband. I always check out fox stamps for the potential to turn them into our husky dog. It has to have the right nose markings.<br />
<br />
This one comes from the <a href="http://yournextstamp.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=927&search=fox" target="_blank">Woodland Cuties</a> set by Your Next Stamp.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have a couple of mini leaf punches, so I punched out a pile of leaves to put her in. The tree is actually just a branch die, but it fit my card as a bare fall tree.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdaP_IFKyhaQtp1jzQpIZgdYWcsdiX2soKkhqaAy2C2_qJlhM_lPVDeca7fr1bcJBC7a_KuMDtjZxyCoGDtebV0rAs8MO_T16Zql-JqMj_DHTb4u_gyNboz6PSlgJqcJijFGIXK1HEKtXN/s1600/Hugs+Fox+1B.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="596" data-original-width="795" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdaP_IFKyhaQtp1jzQpIZgdYWcsdiX2soKkhqaAy2C2_qJlhM_lPVDeca7fr1bcJBC7a_KuMDtjZxyCoGDtebV0rAs8MO_T16Zql-JqMj_DHTb4u_gyNboz6PSlgJqcJijFGIXK1HEKtXN/s320/Hugs+Fox+1B.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I coloured my husky with a selection of Copic Markers in toner greys. It was a hit and brought my husband a smile. I made a more girly version for my mother-in-law. It's the exact same layout but I varied the patterned paper and the mat colour for a more feminine touch.<br />

The papers in the rubber stamping and scrapbooking scene are so pretty. Sometimes, it's hard to part with even the scraps! In the beginning, I had so few supplies, I always salvaged all the scraps I could. Today is a different story, but I still have that mindset of needing to hoard my scraps.<br />
<br />
I find card sketches are a great way to use up scraps! On these cards, I used <a href="http://littletangles.blogspot.com/2016/09/challenge72-sketch.html" target="_blank">Little Tangles Sketch #72</a> by <a href="https://www.neatandtangled.com/" target="_blank">Neat and Tangled</a>.<br />

I made this one for my husband's birthday. He was born on Halloween, so the monster theme works. This <a href="https://ccdesignsrs.com/products/new-monsters-clear-stamp-set?_pos=2&_sid=17268ed58&_ss=r" target="_blank">monster stamp se</a>t is by C.C. Designs. I added a balloon die cut from a Stampin' Up! punch. I used my fancy gold mirror card for the oval on this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiivbQTg3To5DRMzsKAcsV2h7n087OZjXF33Ydb67ldJbSKjMKOFRvMBUboQtiFt_RoIoThfrNMuK6l-noZhqec0UXTrQSXibxytCx7AZqr5zoqTyjxAqmcz5KddU9rvWwNaNKsP3vjiC1N/s1600/Monster+Birthday+Scraps+1B.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="643" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiivbQTg3To5DRMzsKAcsV2h7n087OZjXF33Ydb67ldJbSKjMKOFRvMBUboQtiFt_RoIoThfrNMuK6l-noZhqec0UXTrQSXibxytCx7AZqr5zoqTyjxAqmcz5KddU9rvWwNaNKsP3vjiC1N/s320/Monster+Birthday+Scraps+1B.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I love that stuff! That's the kind of thing I would hoard, so I've been
making a conscious effort to use what I love. What good does it do if it
just sits in my stash? (Other than make me happy when I open my drawers and see it - but the point to cardmaking is to make other people happy too!)<br />
<br />
I made two other cards with this sketch too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh28z6ebwghjdQPLy9LnV87IaN6oIN-Ccpr9wbZzyTEOYFog3GSilZEunpiDHu_M7Ifm2kwa-XyifD4ebkPDX1u_zAgL-uC-EVR7Mzd46Y-d5LTj3xOChnmE_ww9gIc75hSfa4X8HBhTKl-/s1600/Bunny+Holiday+Scraps.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="641" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh28z6ebwghjdQPLy9LnV87IaN6oIN-Ccpr9wbZzyTEOYFog3GSilZEunpiDHu_M7Ifm2kwa-XyifD4ebkPDX1u_zAgL-uC-EVR7Mzd46Y-d5LTj3xOChnmE_ww9gIc75hSfa4X8HBhTKl-/s320/Bunny+Holiday+Scraps.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used a Spellbinder's oval die on this holiday card. (I think I know who will get this one!) I have tonnes of Christmas paper scraps. I think I could make my entire holiday card list out of scraps alone! Again, I used some precious specialty cardstock, this time in a satin finish rose gold. I also used a very lovely, thick gold metallic cardstock as the mat. I like that stuff so much, I cut the centre out of it with a stitched rectangle to keep. I cut a second stitched rectangle out of white cardstock to fill the void so that my striped piece wouldn't sink.<br />
<br />
The stamp is a retired image by <a href="http://yournextstamp.com/shop/index.php?route=common/home" target="_blank">Your Next Stamp</a>. (Luckily, the still have the <a href="http://yournextstamp.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1258&search=bunny&page=4" target="_blank">same bunny</a> available, just holding a heart instead of a gift.) <br />
<br />
On the last card, I used non-shedding glitter paper. (I somehow acquired so much glitter paper, it doesn't all fit in my drawer, which means I'm over the limit!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmywUF1792lUMb78v5YJb1smavFX9WGSFumZIVVj8Owag4e_wmjXgwCWRSPbK_Brl2PxnhE-kpSlFhWJNQGhc2luShnzwu4he5mUmdrRNbMIjwUX_Cbpeus_UrCt32rIsgH6SnqSNfm-U8/s1600/Hugs+Bear+Scraps+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="641" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmywUF1792lUMb78v5YJb1smavFX9WGSFumZIVVj8Owag4e_wmjXgwCWRSPbK_Brl2PxnhE-kpSlFhWJNQGhc2luShnzwu4he5mUmdrRNbMIjwUX_Cbpeus_UrCt32rIsgH6SnqSNfm-U8/s320/Hugs+Bear+Scraps+1A.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This bear stamp is a retired one from <a href="https://www.kraftinkimmiestamps.com/" target="_blank">Kraftin' Kimmie</a> stamps. I coloured it with my Copic markers on Bazzill Kraft cardstock. (In fact, all three cards were coloured with my Copic markers). If you use a base colour that is close to your lightest Copic shade, then I find there's less work in getting a good blend because the base colour will hide those imperfections. It's a good tip when colouring die-cuts to add depth. (OR, you could just make all your die cuts white all the time to save on cardstock and colour them all yourself.) I think using a coloured base adds something different - makes it a smidgeon more visually interesting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0JFqgXxewY_DX1m3Yc5K_avJMG5UIPFKa6TFP5PYVIHmoyKORSzZRgZuwbQWRs_A0vzD38MuJMiF32yZOtEdpcOsspO4AKi5OR7N64eO4yGCMvTWkr5yUBHyfDNyw2vlxJ2KamjpF_dGo/s1600/Hugs+Bear+Scraps+1B.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="641" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0JFqgXxewY_DX1m3Yc5K_avJMG5UIPFKa6TFP5PYVIHmoyKORSzZRgZuwbQWRs_A0vzD38MuJMiF32yZOtEdpcOsspO4AKi5OR7N64eO4yGCMvTWkr5yUBHyfDNyw2vlxJ2KamjpF_dGo/s320/Hugs+Bear+Scraps+1B.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And while I'm proud of using up some scraps, these three cards hardly made a dent! I've been making cards with sketches for quite a stretch now, trying very consciously to use up scraps. I'm making progress (but it's not nearly as fast as I accumulate new stuff. Shhh! Don't tell!)</div>

Here's another Magic Picture Changer card I made using the Lawn Fawn Die. I'm putting this one into the <a href="https://www.lawnfawnatics.com/announcement/lawn-fawnatics-challenge-58-interactive" target="_blank">Interactive Card challenge</a> for Lawn Fawn too. For this one, I used Lawn Fawn's row of houses snow-capped from the Simply Celebrate Winter stamp set.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_GNb5vCCyWfxwzVO9PgYXds_glbbmXwte3Wye4QLmjjY2YfA5g_iNc_L_gR1gEnbu3nQFPVZpCeUmLmX3Cj0Iwu8zcsCzd2VTu1ndZqsyy4_brEeKoGGyGf_1TvlOPrm71PtTf76FTVTd/s1600/Tree+Transport+Picture+Changer+1D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="363" data-original-width="784" height="148" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_GNb5vCCyWfxwzVO9PgYXds_glbbmXwte3Wye4QLmjjY2YfA5g_iNc_L_gR1gEnbu3nQFPVZpCeUmLmX3Cj0Iwu8zcsCzd2VTu1ndZqsyy4_brEeKoGGyGf_1TvlOPrm71PtTf76FTVTd/s320/Tree+Transport+Picture+Changer+1D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I don't have a Lawn Fawn car, but I have one from Hot Off the Press. So, that's what I used to put in front of the houses. I coloured everything with my Copic Markers and I used my newest holiday die-cut sentiment.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnfxq1RSCrFSdXsX6oNlrIFATfzvWkfdDprk9NMwR5CGvtnj5b6ezH5S-CHRNiPFdo9lUxVLxeJNR1ZFt1uvNe0MYH37nshZObDzbX5GHlDgaMy_qv7B1Ajo6r5elCqgOepb5WEg69AAxt/s1600/Tree+Transport+Picture+Changer+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="568" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnfxq1RSCrFSdXsX6oNlrIFATfzvWkfdDprk9NMwR5CGvtnj5b6ezH5S-CHRNiPFdo9lUxVLxeJNR1ZFt1uvNe0MYH37nshZObDzbX5GHlDgaMy_qv7B1Ajo6r5elCqgOepb5WEg69AAxt/s320/Tree+Transport+Picture+Changer+1A.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
I set the card on glitter snowflake cardstock and used a gorgeous red glitter cardstock for the sentiment. I got the snowflake glitter in a paper pad from Michael's one year (on sale after Christmas) and the red cardstock was from Dollarama. I really like the contrast between the snowflake paper (especially the navy stamping I did) and the red sentiment.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKmE8WpbaoqGeywKqarU-nvC4xGVKUa98ImuZcc2hKj6qz1aESxF00a7yUD3NqZobtfjNW7Sue2glxMCBqSJTGykxJnIYYV2VxYXMxQc8AYrpRPI-Ijwx09IALac5QXjOkndDOzC_ua3ZS/s1600/Tree+Transport+Picture+Changer+1C.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="795" data-original-width="550" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKmE8WpbaoqGeywKqarU-nvC4xGVKUa98ImuZcc2hKj6qz1aESxF00a7yUD3NqZobtfjNW7Sue2glxMCBqSJTGykxJnIYYV2VxYXMxQc8AYrpRPI-Ijwx09IALac5QXjOkndDOzC_ua3ZS/s320/Tree+Transport+Picture+Changer+1C.JPG" width="221" /></a></div>
Now, the Magic Picture Changer die is a little pricey. So I did not buy the add-on die that creates a nice front panel with a window for the mechanism piece. (I'm glad Lawn Fawn separated those pieces to help keep the main die cost down.)<br />
<br />
I have a set of stitched rectangles from Your Next Stamp. So, I used the one that matched the width of the Magic Picture Changer, but it's a bit longer. My panel is the piece with the navy blue snowflakes. I stamped white cardstock with a background snowflake stamp to make that piece. I cut a window in it with a 2 inch square die. Then I used the frame from the main Magic Picture Change die set to cover the window. That inside space is about 1.75 inches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I really like my homemade cover panel. The extra length makes it fit with an even border on the front of the card base.<br />
<br />
This picture changer is next level! I love having an interactive surprise waiting for the recipient. I have seen tutorials on how to do it with an Xacto knife, but my blade skills are not nearly good enough do that! Especially after colouring up the images, you want something that is sure to cut perfectly! I definitely would not ever attempt a card like this without the Lawn Fawn die!</div>

Lawn Fawn is having an interactive card challenge <a href="https://www.lawnfawnatics.com/announcement/lawn-fawnatics-challenge-58-interactive" target="_blank">(Challenge #58)</a>! I recently bought the Magic Picture Changer Die and made a few cards from it. This one is a birthday card that is going to my nephew. The raccoon is from a Your Next Stamp woodland set. The row of gifts is from Lawn Fawn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjurr4I0S8SxZ1VPIT9eo66AY6fumpalyT3CJ77veandUUTDa_ZTj1BXo2cIunMk9cK9SdU2joR-JsEScKECQgdpYErT1pxKVyQo8fTK-UBIcbXaKariB-QXEAgCOtzQsDgaHroiimM6fFk/s1600/Birthday+Racoon+Picture+Changer+Card+1_full.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="597" data-original-width="754" height="253" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjurr4I0S8SxZ1VPIT9eo66AY6fumpalyT3CJ77veandUUTDa_ZTj1BXo2cIunMk9cK9SdU2joR-JsEScKECQgdpYErT1pxKVyQo8fTK-UBIcbXaKariB-QXEAgCOtzQsDgaHroiimM6fFk/s320/Birthday+Racoon+Picture+Changer+Card+1_full.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I coloured each image at the same time (i.e. the raccoon's head on both the before and after picture, then the raccoon's body, then his tail, etc.) to try to make them look as similar as possible. I used my Copic cool greys on this critter. I tried to leave the area around his eyes and snout as light as possible, based on looking at some raccoon faces online. They do have a white rim there above the eye mask.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfL3h7i2qGL8Ohy4f7daYxdGxsmla3IPtw777LVgAiHFwAqbn9lIQy3Wp4xnLqdqP1T6QLok0FLJ5lR2M85UfxvKtYerFBmy0NZWmfEHExxOK9XqjTrHu-cYaIBNPJK0tFrhF9wyF7HyH2/s1600/Birthday+Racoon+Picture+Changer+Card+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="641" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfL3h7i2qGL8Ohy4f7daYxdGxsmla3IPtw777LVgAiHFwAqbn9lIQy3Wp4xnLqdqP1T6QLok0FLJ5lR2M85UfxvKtYerFBmy0NZWmfEHExxOK9XqjTrHu-cYaIBNPJK0tFrhF9wyF7HyH2/s320/Birthday+Racoon+Picture+Changer+Card+1A.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used a medley of sentiments: A Recollections die for the "happy", a Frantic Stamper stamp for the "birthday", and a Hello Bluebird stamp for the "for you". I drew the grassy hill in myself. I wish I had used pencil crayon for the blades of grass. I would have gotten finer flicks. Oh well! You can't see the grass on the "after" picture anyway with all those gifts in front!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdWj7in5zIji6aFRsVD1p1D3NzM_hB3ShS27jXChpjKc3mVWbxkzLDMlMrafuXCyxHjq9S4tmy-gtBLCjTw87_5qPU5FdsUgf6AWmiCgiRFzNBb9eMidC_70gjPkq3ZR9cbZ2H4KByin0a/s1600/Birthday+Racoon+Picture+Changer+Card+1C.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="642" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdWj7in5zIji6aFRsVD1p1D3NzM_hB3ShS27jXChpjKc3mVWbxkzLDMlMrafuXCyxHjq9S4tmy-gtBLCjTw87_5qPU5FdsUgf6AWmiCgiRFzNBb9eMidC_70gjPkq3ZR9cbZ2H4KByin0a/s320/Birthday+Racoon+Picture+Changer+Card+1C.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a bit finicky to work with this die. I have some suggestions of how to make this die better:<br />
<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Make the pull tab longer with a crease fold so you can fold it over in two to strengthen it. I had to cut two (the second one slightly longer to tuck in past the slit opening) to reinforce it.</li>
<li>Make the "tracks" wider. It's hard to fold 1/8th strips and you need ultra precision with your tape or glue. I would have made them at least 1/4 inch. OR, make them cut out with a die as separate strips to adhere as tracks instead of folding them over. I have a 1/8th strip cutter die from Accucut Craft and I did use that on one of them. I had done something wrong on the folded bits and tore them back up but then they were mangled. So, I cut new strips with my strip cutter and adhered them down. That was easy.</li>
</ol>
<div>
I would also like to see a bigger one. The changer window area is quite small. Based on the success of this die, I wouldn't be surprised to see it get a big sister in the future!</div>
</div>

Here's another challenge card. This one is for the <a href="https://kraftinkimmiestamps.blogspot.com/2019/08/challenge-492-green.html" target="_blank">Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps Challenge #492: Green</a>. I will be going to my first Kraftin' Kimmie stamping/scrapbooking retreat this year. I have a few Kraftin' Kimmie sets and one is these <a href="https://www.kraftinkimmiestamps.com/product/new-darling-dragons/" target="_blank">Darling Dragons</a>. Dragons + Green works perfectly for this challenge entry!<br />
<br />
I used <a href="http://papercraftcrew.com/" target="_blank">Paper Craft Crew</a> <a href="http://papercraftcrew.com/pcc325-sketch/" target="_blank">Card Sketch # 325</a> for this card. I added a little gift from the dragon using a stamp in a Hello Bluebird set of stamps that I have.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgir-FIlS-htZDrvvAL5HDOBpgQ1FpWZTm6CWIa8WnFA6uqQ78gpecV4U9qfg7XpdEb_Ml11rCLg_v_glAFKJcc-wMZUKkSaub3Qn0NLKWlqObHpzI_v0FwVsYVZ5rtWLyaQlBFFflnoxk4/s1600/Dragon+Birthday+Gift+1A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="642" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgir-FIlS-htZDrvvAL5HDOBpgQ1FpWZTm6CWIa8WnFA6uqQ78gpecV4U9qfg7XpdEb_Ml11rCLg_v_glAFKJcc-wMZUKkSaub3Qn0NLKWlqObHpzI_v0FwVsYVZ5rtWLyaQlBFFflnoxk4/s320/Dragon+Birthday+Gift+1A.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Click photo for larger view.)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I used a scrap strip of patterned paper. The sketch called for a bigger piece at the bottom but my strip was narrower. I chose to place it higher and border it with two 1/8th strips of metallic black cardstock. I used my 1/8th strip cutting die from Accucut Craft to make the strips perfect.</div>
<br />
I coloured this dragon with Copic markers and also added the iridescent medium to its spine and tummy. I used a Sakura sparkly pink gel pen on the gift's ribbon.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsxpn61twDrxbitQuzZmdtxTvv0knK53lQZQ8ZHy3uQyRSZgS11lmTRUwRkbx78EXuvpKFpRe_6WMKwof_LtSeJXcfsWZKXsWPtped9YiW0S2q6VkZTN58TC_-TRUbr38_prVGdDj0i8GL/s1600/Dragon+Birthday+Gift+1B.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="641" data-original-width="795" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsxpn61twDrxbitQuzZmdtxTvv0knK53lQZQ8ZHy3uQyRSZgS11lmTRUwRkbx78EXuvpKFpRe_6WMKwof_LtSeJXcfsWZKXsWPtped9YiW0S2q6VkZTN58TC_-TRUbr38_prVGdDj0i8GL/s320/Dragon+Birthday+Gift+1B.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Click photo for larger view.)</div>
<br />
I masked the gift first and then stamped the dragon after so that the gift would be in front. I heat-embossed the sentiment in white on the dark navy paper. The paper scrap has glitter in it as well, but I didn't get it in the photo. A tiny scrap of silver glitter paper finished the card off.</div>

It's been a long time since I have participated in any card challenges. I saw the current <a href="http://casology.blogspot.com/2019/07/week-348-shimmer.html" target="_blank">CASology challenge #348: Shimmer</a> and knew I had lots of stamps I could make shimmery! I like the CASology challenges because clean and simple is my style. I like to minimize bulk so that my cards are more mail-able. I am too late to actually join the challenge, but it's fun to play along nonetheless!<br />
<br />
I have fairies, unicorns, and dragons that I can add shimmer to. I chose the very cute <a href="https://ccdesignsrs.com/products/new-dragons-clear-stamp-set" target="_blank">C.C. Designs Rubber Stamps dragons</a> for this card. I've seen many rainbow ink-blended cloud backgrounds and I decided it was time to try one myself! I used my homemade cloud stencil and 3 colours of dye inks. I coloured the dragon with my Copic markers.<br />

For shimmer, I used an iridescent medium by Liquitex that is designed to be mixed with acrylic paint. I applied it with a paint brush to the dragon's spines and wings. I tilted the card in this picture so you could see the shimmer. I also splattered some among the clouds. It comes in a large bottle and you can get it at Michaels with a coupon. When my Wink of Stella pen runs out, I think I'm going to put this stuff in it! It has the same effect. The only differences to me are that 1) it doesn't come in a waterbrush, 2) it has more of a white or silver shine, 3) it's cheaper by volume.<br />

The bottom section of cloud is a panel I used a cloud border die on and then popped up on foam tape. The sentiment is from a Hello Bluebird stamp set with a Yeti. I stamped it on vellum and and ran it through my Xyron 1.5 inch sticker maker to adhere it.<br />

It was nice to be inspired by a challenge to make this card. I think it turned out pretty cute!</div>
